Re: Paint question for the experts

I'm the original owner and right after I took delivery I noticed the inside of the front bumper cover near the battery was blue. Like the cover was originally blue and was repainted black. I went back to the dealer who didn't have a clue. I wasn't pissed, just curious so they looked up the "rec...

Re: Coating or Painting 5.0 Mustang Under Hood Aluminum Part

Well, I have to say this is a bit bizarre. My last post was 1/28/16. Well, the Mustang got put on the back burner, [Jeep and due to an old boat acquisition]. The Mustang came back into the shop Friday night when a few buddies were here beer drinking and lie telling. I got them to help me push her in...

Re: Coating or Painting 5.0 Mustang Under Hood Aluminum Part

Sorry for the lack of reported progress. I got sidetracked on Jan 1 by a new purchase. It was cheap but every part I look at seems to be worn out. Oh well, all garage time is good time. There was this; http://s28.postimg.org/5rvic3i3t/IMG_2449.jpg That led to this; http://s21.postimg.org/iqne6vbsj/I...

Re: Air Pump Hose Clamps Wanted

I have standard clamps I can use. I attempted to locate black clamps but couldn't find any. I tried the black oxide treatment I've been using to refinish all the original crusty bolts, but it wouldn't take on the stainless steel.

Sooo, I'm searching out the OEM Black clamps.

Air Pump Hose Clamps Wanted

As part of my under hood restoration I need 4 of the hose clamps used on the Air [smog] pump. To use the equal length headers I need to splice in short lengths of stainless tubing, hence 4 additional clamps. They are black color and have a tiny Ford logo. Just wondering if some of the hot rod guys d...

Re: Coating or Painting 5.0 Mustang Under Hood Aluminum Part

Upper Intake; As the upper intake was originally powder coated I thought about taking somewhere and having it redone, but the surface was intact, just dingy. I tried compound and wax but that didn't do it. I ended up glass beading it. Not enough to really remove the powder coat, just enough to scuff...

Re: Coating or Painting 5.0 Mustang Under Hood Aluminum Part

Thanks All, As this will never be "Concours Original" and I probably won't be getting any calls from Pebble Beach", I couldn't resist a little bling. I've always been a sucker for nice valve covers, especially as the OEM covers are pretty underwhelming. It's a shame they'll be mostly ...

Re: Rack and Pinion

I finally heard back from the vendor.
Then "non-performance" model is for 4 and 6 cylinder vehicles. The "performance model" is for everything else.

Re: Rack and Pinion

"Official Ford Mustang 5.0 Technical Reference and Performance Handbook" I didn't know there was such a thing. I just put that on my wish list. I'm going to check with NPD. I'm thinking it might be a different ratio. I'll report back with what I find out. Thanks so much for the info., robj

Rack and Pinion

As part of the under hood restoration, I pulled the steering rack in preparation for cleaning and painting the crossmember. The boots look a little worse for wear, no tears but could be replaced, and new tie rods might not be a bad idea. On NPD the Motor-craft ends alone are about $40 each, plus boo...

1. Engine Block Paint: Having made the decision to paint the block "bare cast iron" and having sprayed test cards on about 8 brands of "Cast Iron Grey", I settled on VHT Cast Iron Grey Engine Enamel as the closest match to the unrusted area I found under the bell housing area. Pr...

Re: Coating or Painting 5.0 Mustang Under Hood Aluminum Part

Some progress made. Like pulling a loose tooth. http://s24.postimg.org/oaspbs6gx/IMG_2284.jpg Now the real cleaning up begins. I had a slight delay in the work. When moving the engine lift to the lower bay of the shop by myself on Saturday, I was attempting slide it down the 2 steps and the upper pa...

Re: Would you change the interior color?

I used vinyl paint to paint a red seat black on a friends BMW GS motorcycle. My friend put about 5,000 miles on the bike so far and the paint has yet to wear off. On a motorcycle seat! I'll look tomorrow for the brand of the paint but I know it was not inexpensive. It might have been $50-60 for the ...
