Ok, now TMI vinyl seat opinions and/or experience.

Post by Phistry810 »

I've seen on some of the Mustang sites where people were replacing their stock seating material with TMI vinyl and loved it. They said it looks very much like their leathers but more durable and cheaper. What are yalls opinion or experience? Anyone here with pics of that? Thanks!

This was the black car Aaron restored. If I remember correctly it has the TMI seat covers.

I think I'm going to go with the vinyl. I was very skeptical at first about it but everyone that has experience with the TMI vinyl loves it and swears by it. Super thick and durable and also comfortable, not like the vinyl you automatically think about. I'm getting a sample of each from TMI. I'm not going to do anything until the winter though so still have time to decide.

I'm kinda stressing about it, I really wish it didn't need it.

I'm right there with you man. I just wish someone made a good opal cloth and it would be a simple decision. Not sure what to do either... Curious to hear your thoughts on the vinyl sample

I will post something as soon as I get the sample in. I am with you on the cloth as well. From what I hear the vinyl is almost too good to be true but it is. Just as nice as the leather but more durable, looks like the factory leather, and less than half the price!

Did you get your car repaired from that wood slinging accident yet?

Cool. I didn't even know they made it in vinyl.
No not yet. Been outta town a lot. Replaced the window and windshield trim and after a quick wipe with some wax it looks just how it did before the wood hit it. Still going to get the clip painted soon as there is some checking in the hood and small scratches on the bumper. Next month I hope... I still have a tko conversion to do to it to. Had all the parts for over a month. I seem to either have time or money but never both at the same time :)

Don't do vinyl. It never came in these cars. Mine came with vinyl fronts when i bought it and I never did like them. Reeked of cheap to me. Cobra's were the top of the line. Do yourself a favor and don't rush things. Set a goal of leather and start saving. I know you want it done now but you will be very glad if you wait and do it right.

I did mine in leather for around $700 IRC. Waaaaaay better stuff than what came from the factory.

I did get the sample. It looks a shade darker than factory Opal but that may be from 20 years of fade. However, you can tell the vinyl is well made and thicker than stock. I can post a pic if you want but may not be able to tell much from that.
