Repaint Hood?
I have wanted a 93 Cobra from the first time I saw one in high school, now I have the car of my dreams. Here's my problem the hood is checking and has a lot of rock chips and one really bad spot. I think I want to have the hood repainted, but don't know if I want to ruin the originality. I bought the car to drive and have fun not to go to a show and win trophies (not to slight anyone who does). The rest of the car is in really good shape, and the hood is killing me. What should I do?

I'd be careful about painting just the hood of a 20-year old car, especially the ES red on your Cobra. Odds are it will very tough to match the hood with fresh paint to the surrounding quarter panels and front bumper with original paint. You might not be pleased with the results.
Why not try wet sanding/detailing of the hood by a professional shop first?

My hood is checking as well. I was wondering if a good wet sanding would make it dissapear?
I wouldn't paint it though, just for originality sakes. Unless of course your hood is really bad. Mine isn't noticeable until your right up on it.

I am with you man, When I let it go two years ago the hood was perfect, WTH happened to this car while it was in FL?? Only Flaw was on the RH fender, had one small spot on it, I would not paint the hood, or any part of that car, Just my 02!plumcrazysrt wrote:MJH wrote:I have wanted a 93 Cobra from the first time I saw one in high school, now I have the car of my dreams. I think I may have made it sound a lot worse than it is. My wife say's I am OCD. I like thing's to be perfect but this car is 20 years old now. The 95 Cobra I had was just about perfect but I wouldn't drive for fear of getting a rock chip. Cars are made to be driven. Any way I think I will just touch up the spots and drive it.

Most of us here are OCD so you should feel at home, I would see what a good body shop could do without painting it.MJH wrote:I think I may have made it sound a lot worse than it is. Yep we all take pride in these cars, and all OCD to a degree. I find I'm mellowing (a little) with age thank god! No detailing the underside of the car for me! LOL.
