Cobra intake identification: smooth and more...
Hi y'all,
I'm hoping to poll the experts here, and get some information.
I purchased an intake from EBay, from unknown identity.
Here is as far as I could get with what I was able to dig up.
First, it's what is commonly referred to as a "smooth" side. Of which I believe narrows down to the production cars of #555 or less. Can someone confirm that?
Second I believe it to be a long neck. Of which has little meaning short of .... I'm not sure.
Third-
This has me baffled. I've never seen the letter plate such as this. It appears to be a glued or laminated aluminum plate embossed with what is shown. Also, I had trouble taking a picture of it, but it appears there is left over glue material where you can make out "5.0 LITER"
Can someone remember what significance this aluminum plate indicates?
Forth, what's the current market value of this piece? I'm not looking to sell it, just wondering if it's more valuable or not?
Lastly I purchased this intake on the off chance it came with a 1993 Cobra lower intake. Unfortunately to my letdown it is what appears to be an authentic 1994 Cobra intake. Anyone trade for a 1993?
My Cobra is a high mileage drug mule and I'm trying to perform a Resto-Mod as its not worth returning to stock. That said, I'm doing what I can with what I have to work with. Just your average 1,000hp hopes & dreams!
Thanks guys, now for the picture show.

Re: Cobra intake identification: smooth and more...
its a early 93 cobra production, first 500 (approx.) it has the flat smooth side. the name is normal the paint has just been worn and or washed off, likely do to power washing and using degreaser. lower is probably the same as a 93, value 300- 400. There is a thread with a lot of intake info , ill see if i can ind it.
Re: Cobra intake identification: smooth and more...
Very Interesting! Looking forward to some answers on this. I bought a 93 Cobra intake from a member on another forum several years ago. The one thing I couldn't figure out was that the color of the intake ws off. It was a silver, but it looked like it had a brown tint to it. I chalked it up wear and exposures to the elements from the past. But I look at my Cobra intake now and its silver, no color change.

i have seen dull silver, glossy silver, greenish silver, over the years who knows what chemicals have been sprayed to clean the engines, along with underhood heat

Ok, so it's an early and #555 or lower like I thought.
Also it's not a pre-production nor an Austrailan.
I'm still confused on the aluminum plate. I'm chalking it up to nothing special.
My intake on my drug mule is already extrude honed, so I'll keep that one and sell this early intake plenum.
Think I'll put a new sticker on my EH intake.

Why are you still confused on the aluminum plate? The paint has just come off.

Re: Cobra intake identification: smooth and more...
I sure wish it had the correct lower with it (probably not as much as you). I know Meegs I emailed you these pictures before but I still have not had any one confirm what the lowers on the early production Cobras were. The lower that I have is a F2ZE lower and was attached to an early no rib upper. It supposedly came off an early production 1993 Cobra. It does have what appears to be factory paint markings on it. When I got this intake it was dirty (first picture) and I used simple green and a nylon brush to clean it up (two and three). Once it was clean a lavender paint mark became much more apparent.
If this was not off a early 1993 Cobra what other production cars would have this intake and production paint markings?

That F4ZE prefix on your lower refers to 1994...perhaps its to a 94 Cobra?
