#3565 getting work done

Wheel painting
Aaron, if you need some tips just hit me up. I just finished up a set for my black car.
Yours look like they need. 220 Grit around the edges with a DA, and then Smooth out the chips and peal marks with 220 as well.
Then Use some good 2K primer, but light on the lips of the wheels. Let cure, then hit with 600 wet or dry paper, paint, then clear them. I also use a red Scuff pad after I use the 600. I have done many sets and alwasy turn out great.
I also have the Ford Number in a PPG brand paint. OMNI # at the house. A gallon of OMIN clear with activator is $100. Pint of paint and reducer is about $40. So you can usually have less than $200 in materials. Well Forgot the primer is kind of high. Just buy a Qt of the 2K primer with activator.

I have actually been thinking about offering a Service to paint 93 Wheels on an exchange basis. Any ideas on that guys.
Say mabe $300 Plus shipping and exchange

Thanks for all the help and info on this. I need all I can get. And I'm sure when it comes to getting them painted, I'll probably call you. Your rims do look great! Im glad you chimed in because I was getting the other help on SVTP and it's kind of different from what your saying. I'll copy and paste here, because I don't want to bad mouth anyone(Budda93's a good guy), and he is very helpful too, but when 2 different things(products) are said, I like to get to the bottom of it. He just stated different ways of sanding and different list of paint products that I need vs. what you use.
As for your rim swapping, I think its a great idea! Although, for what I purchased them in the first place, plus $300 labor and paint, and I can only imagine the shipping being $150, and on top of that, you have to pay to ship yours too, so maybe another $150. So $300-ish in shipping and $300 in labor. There has to be a better way. If I lived next to you, I'd do it in a heart beat! If you have different ideas, please let me know first because this will save me the headache of finding someone to paint mine. Here's what the Budda93 said on SVTP for costs:

Your not going to hurt my feelings any....lol! That's just how I did mine and they haven't given me any problems. You know the saying, more than one way to skin a cat.
As far as the sanding, I probably went a bit overkill on the prep in terms of the final sanding before paint, but I wasn't sure how the stuff was going to lay down on the wheel.

Hope you didn't take that wrong man. Seems we both got the same results. I use 220 to feather the chips, and then Prime them. I go back over the wheels with 220 after prime if needed then re-prime them. Then I 600 wet or dry, then paint. Most times I only have to prime them once, then sand. Usually turn out great.
Nope not in any way, shape, or form. I actually told him to hit you up because I really don't recall 100% what I used when I sanded. I had one wheel in particular I had to spend a lot of time on, so I'm thinking that's where some of the finer grit sanding came into play.aaronlstiles wrote:Hope you didn't take that wrong man. Thats cool man. I had 2 of mine that needed a little more work than the other 2. There really no fun at all to do, well not thill you get the new paint and new Gatorbacks on them, then it's well worth it.
Aaron your wheels did turn out great, there is always more then one way to do everything just depends how picky you are.

That's what makes a good body man, the crappy ones let a little dirt or rough spots go in clear coat.

Does anyone have a MINT set of rims, willing to trade for mine plus $300? For the time it would take me to find a paint booth and someone to paint these(I have never painted before) on top of getting all the paint supplies, I will be over the cost of what it would take to try this deal and what I originally paid for these.
