93 Cobra Rear End Question

Post by WildEagle »

I was talking to a guy who said that the rear end in the 93 Cobra is not the same as your standard 87-93 Mustang LX/GT rear end so if my Cobra rear end were to snap I would have to look for a special year Thunderbird rear end and modify it. Is there some truth to this and if so what is the difference between a 93 Cobra rear end and the 87-93 LX/GT. Also, what would be the best resolve if a Cobra rear end were to go out.

****Nothing is wrong with my rear end. I just want to know how much down time I would have it this were to happen. Thanks Joel

'93 Cobra Rear End

Post by rufus »

The fellow might have been referring to the disc brakes unique to the Cobra. Other than the differences associated with the discs, I'm not aware of any (except the standard Cobra ratio was 3.08 vs 2.73 std and 3.08 optional on the run-of-the-mill 5.0L's).

We'll see if someone else knows of any other differences.....

Best Regards,
Bob S.

Doesn't sound like to much of a problem if it is just transferring over the brakes and the gears. Thanks

I would think so.

If you broke one you would have to get a replacement one from some where.

you can get one aftermarket but to get one from ford is really hard. Ford has to make a new one and it takes several weeks or even months to get.

I don't think the axles are hard to find. I see them on eBay all the time.

imagine that, One set of these axles shows up on Ebay. give me a break. Go to ford and try to order a set. When they tell you to go pound sand, let me know.

One set on ebay?? There is usually one set a week! Also the an axle from the old 87 -88 turbo t-bird will work. I can give you list of about 50 of those rearends just in the houston area alone . I can get those for between 250 and 450 all day long and still have extra rotors, calipers, hoses, gears the works. So I would not be worried about getting axles yet.

My replacements are Moser. Side by side look totally different but all the crucial measurements were dead on. The differences came in the over all construction of the Moser, they are just better built. http://reiderracing.com/ this is were I got mine.
