fuel pump

Hi everyone, the car got stuck at the car show. It just keeps spinning. It has gas and spark, but noticed that when the key is turned on, the fuel pump keeps running. Usually it will run like normal for 5 seconds to prime. Any thoughts

Check the fuel pressure with a gauge.

How did You check to know it's getting gas??

The schrader valve on the passenger side of the car, hook up a fuel gauge to it and see what kind of pressure the car is getting to the fuel injectors.

I was asking Joe how did He check for gas. Since His orginal thead said he had gas and spark. A little more detailed info to help find the problem.

WELL ACTUALLY, I AM NOT SURE ABOUT IT GETTING GAS. I DON`T HAVE A FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE. A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE IS A FORD TECH WHO IS GOING TO LOOK AT IT FOR ME THIS WEEK. I`LL POST THE DIAGNOSIS AFTER IT IS FIXED. THANKS EVERYONE

Hey BadBoy.. What does that mean?? And Joe, Sounds like a bad diafram in the fuel pump, Unable to build up enough pressure to shut itself off.

fuel pressure does not control the pump . the ecm controls it using the distributer and oil pressure switch.

What would cause the fuel pump to keep running when the engines not?

the relay could be stuck on, it is behind the mass air meter on the pass. side inner-fender. or the ecm could be messed up , but I would look at the relay. Does the pump stop when you turn the key off?

I had an 85 Mustang GT do the same thing. The fuel pump would not shut off, even when the key was turned off. I had to unhook the battery to stop it. I ended up replacing the fuel pump and it fixed the problem.

It can be a few different things, figuring out which one it is, well thats the diagnosis process.
