You don't have any exhaust running too close to the tank, do you?

Check the vacume line that is on top of the tank and goes up to the charcoal canister. It may be pinched somehwere.

Just leave the cap a little lose till you figure it out. Done that like a million times.

Hey guys, sorry to jump the thread but I also have a gas tank/cap issue. A couple of times when I have gone to fill up when I'm on empty the pump shuts off on me and the tank is no where near full. It happened about 5 times on my last fill up. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, any ideas? Oh and before anyone asks, it definitely isn't operator error, haha.

doughrat19 yours is just a ventilation issue, try not putting the nozzle in so far next time to see what happens. If not the issue there is a second line that vents when you fill the tank may be an issue there.
