NY required the front plate, and NH, where I live today does too. So, no big deal. I've also got a photo from 3 months prior, the only shot of the car without the front plate bracket. Man, that seems like a life time ago.... And to think my friends thought I was nuts trading my brand new F150 for a Cobra. How would I drive in the snow belt of NY with a Cobra.... Wasn't fun, but it worked....

My story

Post by SVT1993 »

I've loved Mustangs before I could drive - When I was 14, (almost 30 years ago) a friends older brother gave me a 289. I took it apart and found that a piston had gone into the side of the block. I didn't stop there - My auto shop teacher had a 289 in the yard and gave it to me. I rebuilt my first 289 by the age of 15. I went looking for a Mustang, but not being very old, I had a hard time affording even a junker. I finally put the motor in a cougar which I purchased for $300. The cougar was never a "looker" and I didn't get any girls with the car. But I did get the valuable experience that any Mustanger needs to become an enthusiast.

Now for the Mustangs:

At 17 I got a 75 Mustang II, drove it everywhere, then I put a built 289 out of a shelby with a big block toploader in it and had nothing but problems. I just had to have a solid cam and 400 +HP. Young & dumb.

At 21 I got a 79 Capri RS turbo. This was a freinds 4th one, he got his first one on his 16th b-day in 1979. He had crashed all the previous ones. A solid car with dependiblity. I needed that. Turbo Boost! (6 lbs, unless you knew how to get 15lbs out of it, then it was like a V-8 - pinging and all).

At 22 sold the turbo for a F-250 Diesel so I could carry all my work tools. This was the end of my fast car days for the next 15 years.

1993 - Bought a YZ 250 dirt bike - I had the speed again, it had been a long eight years with just a diesel truck. I friend down the street traded his 84.5 GT350 Anny Mustang for a new Cobra. I was amazed by the beauty of the car - a red one. I wanted one but with 2 sons and a third on the way, I would have to wait longer - hell, I was lucky to have a dirt bike!

2000 - Winning the lottery (not really, just a lot of hard work) I bought a 1969 Mach 1 428 Cobra jet 4 speed car. Unbeliveable power. The car was perfect. Too perfect to drive. Sold it to the original Ford dealer who sold the car in 1969. It sits in his showroom today.

2001 - Bought my first Cobra - a 1986 SVO. Spent 4 years restoring it to new condition. The car had 32,000 miles on it when I sold it in 2005. I don't think there is a newer looking SVO (Mechanically) anywhere.

2006 - My first real Cobra. A fully optioned Black 1993, 25K miles. A little easier to drive than the SVO, V-8 power, and the looks to kill! This is a car that, although rare, still isn't that expensive. Great mannerisms and very comfortable to drive. The whole time I owned the SVO, I was dreaming of owning this car. It fits me well.

I think that the 1993 Cobra drives & feels like a muscle car. The new cars are WAY too comfortable and don't hook up unless you take off the traction control. There is something to be said about the 1993 Cobra - the end of a model year and the end of an era. The newer cars just don't have the same feel.

Sorry for the long story - now ya know me.

If you want to see any pictures let me know how to get them on the site - you guys would like looking at all the cars.

1993cobra wrote:No, the actuall fender itself is different. There was a change in 91 all 1991 , 92, 93 fenders have a different wheel opening shape . The difference is between the front bumper and tire . It was made larger to help acomadate the larger 16" wheels of the gt and the 17"s to come later on the cobra. They will intercange as long as you use the front fender extention that correspondes with the year fender you are using. see photo link below

I had a job at 15, and saved up some money. At 16, my parents gave me $1500 to further help my car fund. I had no clue what I wanted, but as any red blooded male, I knew a sprts car was a good idea. I honestly knew NOTHING about cars. While driving to dinner with my family, I saw a black 88 LX 2.3 sitting in a parking lot for sale. I didn't know the difference between the 2.3 and 5.0, but the car looked nice. BTW, this would have been back in Sept/Oct 97. Anyone, once I had that car, I started browsing mustangs online, and noticing more and more about town. Living in IL all the nice cars disappeared for winter, but come spring, I saw it, a teal 93 Cobra. I still remember the plates, "Venom93" It had a nice exhaust on it, and combined with its good looks, that car was sex on wheels. Ever since then I've been saying I will someday have one. I honestly get goosebumps while drooling over them at car shows and whatnot. I currently found one that sounds EXACTLY like what I want, down to the interior color/material, and sunfoor. Now if I can just talk him into dropping about 2K, I'll be talking to my bank.

I worked at a mercedes dealership in 93, and the owner of that place had ordered one of those, and a 93 saleen at the same time. He was the first person in phx to have either car. I remember driving both of them, as well as his Ferrari, and a Nice porsche. I fell in love witht he cobra. It was Vibrant red, cant remember what color interior, but the red just did it for me. the saleen had yellow on it, and I didnt care for yellow. The ferrari was a pain in the butt to drive. It seemed like you were supposed to lay down to drive it, and well the porsche, Ive owned a few of those and still love them. I vowed one day to own a vibrant red cobra, and here it is, 13 years later and I finaly got one :D
