tune up

Post by vinchez78 »

Been thinking about getting a tune up for the Cobra, I don't want to take it to just any mechanic, would a Ford dealer be the best place to go? And what exactly does a tune up consist of for a 93?

Do it yourself Vin, I guarantee if you can do the radiator you can do a tuneup

Generally:

Cap
Rotor
Plugs
Plug wires
Check filter

I do:

Oil change while I'm at it

Pretty easy job to do yourself just have to take time to do it. Probably wouldn't hurt you to get a Haynes manual to help you understand things also. Sometimes you can order them through local parts stores also if they don't have one. http://www.haynes.com/products/productID/158

A lot of the shops used to sell a tune up kit, which consisted of the ignition stuff, fuel filter, etc. That and bump the timing a few degrees if you haven't already.

Not sure if you have smog where your at vin but in Cali. If the timing is advanced they will fail it in a second, just a thought for ya

Factory is set at 10 degrees. Bump it to 13-14 degrees and you'll get a nice little seat of the pants kick.

No smog here in Ga, interesting the timing stuff, I'm gonna check it out this weekend after I change the oil, will tweaking the timing use more gas?

Lot's of places sell these. It may or may not be cheaper than your local autoparts store, but worth checking out.
