Upholstery

Post by oldernu »

Where to go to get seats restored vs replace with after market. Opinions please!! Mostly the driver seat worn and rear seat bottom devoid of foam support. Thanks. Oldernu

Have you tried SMS auto fabrics?

I used them when I restored my seats in my '85GT.

Leather or cloth? If its leather, late model resto sells kits for front and rear that look like the original. If it is cloth they offer a kit but it looks nothing like the original fabric.

Why can't they make reproduction cloth that matches?

About your only option for cloth to make it right is find a tweed seat some where regardless if its drivers or passenger and have it taken apart at a good trim shop and use the fabric off it to repair yours.

^^^

Better yet, this sounds like a great opportunity for you to get some really good quality seats like Corbeaus or Recaros, rather than the poor quality OEM ones.

do what speed said^ back seats are rarely used and usually pretty nice. So find a set of rears and have a shop dismantle them and use the cloth.

Went to Fox Resto in Locust NC. He has original cloth and vinyl . Sends it to TMI and they sew up new covers. He went over the whole car and we ended up with .. Reinforce rear seat with additional foam. Add new foam and seat bottom frame to drivers seat to stop wear. Retain original covers as too nice to frig with at this point. If I had done driver seat with new then the passenger seat would need it to match. Cost somewhere near $1200. At this point I'll think about it. Ended up with new outside mirrors and door armrest covers with console lid.
