Pics of my restoration...

Post by boost addict »

This is the '93 Cobra I'm in the middle of restoring. I bought the car off a guy in Dallas almost a year ago. It sat in his barn for years as a theft recovery out of california. Original 24K mile car minus motor, tranny, ground fx, wheels, and most of the interior. It was still without a doubt one of the straightest and cleanest cars I'd ever come across. 1 of 400 black on black with no sunroof. So I immediately stripped the remainder of the car and took it to paint. These are the pictures when I first got it back a few weeks ago.

I and a few buddies put it back together over the last few weeks. Ground fx, full interior, etc. I then took it back to the body shop last Friday for the cut and buff. They wanted to do that after I assembled the car. I didn't want them to do the assembly as I'm picky anyway. I wanted all factory fasteners back in the ground fx and of course in the interior. It's all new stuff. Factory Ford panels, ground fx, etc. It should be nice when I'm done. The motor I found from a 10K mile wrecked '93. OEM '93 wheels. Mint black interior (and I mean MINT), all the good stuff. I should have it back by the end of this week. I'll get some more pics then.

Mind if we ask about how much it took to restore? That stuff is NOT cheap! Looks like you had some major dusting to do, from what I see of that dash. Post some pics of it finished when you get a chance.

OK, please don't take this as bragging or showing off or whatever negative spin some will put on it. But my wife and I recently moved, partly to give me a dedicated home office but also so I could have a bigger garage for all the junk. I just wanted to share my excitement. Here goes:

This is the front of the house. About 3K square feet or so. Not a mansion by any means, but it's all mine. New subdivision out here being built by a car buddy of mine. I like it so far.

Image

Same front of the house, different view.

Image

North View of the garages. We have a two car for the dailies and then a 70 foot long shop for my junk.

Image

The daily driver garage. Don't really care about showing the license plates. Their insured. LOL

Image

View from the south door of the big garage. I use the lift for the race car mainly (which is at Noriegas right now) but also to stack the race car and '93 (which is being wet sanded/buffed at the body shop right now). I miss them, they're my babies. LOL

Image

Another view from the south door.

Image

My workbench/toolbox area.

Image

View from the north door. It was intended that I be able to drive through the garage at first, but the lift got in the way. I just like it for the breeze it creates with both doors open on nice days.

Image

Another north door view.

This is the '94 Supra TT. Don't drive it much. This car + go fast music + flat west Texas roads = Jail. LOL

Image

The GT500. Had if for over 1.5 years. 1500 miles on it now. Goodyear stock prices go up every time I drive it. Made almost 550rw with the current setup.

Image

Both.

Image

The SHO. Currently on ebay. The wife said make room for the next one by selling something. There will be a GTR or Z06 filling the empty slot by year end.

BEAUTIFUL! Very, very nice!

Judging by the landscape and the rear-entry garages, you must be in the DFW area?

Went by the body shop today to check the progress on the wet sanding. They haven't started but plan on working it all day tomorrow and Friday so I can drop the motor in on Saturday. Here goes:

The stall they had the car in was small so I couldn't get great pics. I'll get some more this weekend after I get the wheels on and such. As you can see, I got the quarter windows in, the ground fx, and everything in the interior except the door panels, the rear carpet and tail light panels.

This weekend I'll do motor, lights, emblems and wheels and tires.

Edit: Oh yea, the body shop is repainting around the doors to the trim black. They "accidentally" painted it like the car. I don't like that look and I'm going for somewhat original.

I paid $5K for the car which included OEM Cobra ground fx, all interior minus seats and door panels and no motor, tranny or wheels. All in all, I thought it was a good deal considering I had a motor, seats, door panels, wheels and a keen interest in '93 cobras. LOL

Nice house and garage man! You know I always wanted to know.. would you rather have a theft recovery, or one that have been hit hard in the front. Stripped VS Wrecked... Age old question really.

Are you going to keep the black 100% original when completed?

Looking good! Just FYI...those aren't 93 front seats. They are 90-92 black tweed seats. The 93s don't have the pull out lag doo-dad.

you are correct, also does it still have the disc brake rear? I though a gt wheel would stick out futher than that on a disc rear?

I know the seats aren't correct. They actually came from my 29K mile '90 GT. They're perfect and I haven't run across a set of '93 fronts in perfect condition yet. The lumbar connectors are different as well so I chose to leave the connections in the car intact as well as on the seats so as to nut cut or hack anything up. Hopefully someday I'll find a correct set of mint '93s.

As for the rear, the one under the car right now is an 8.8 out of a GT. I have a perfect '93 Cobra disc rear sitting in the shop ready to go as well as a set of perfect '93 Cobra wheels and tires. They'll go under the car when it comes back from the paint shop. I didn't want any of that stuff to get all the body shop dust, water etc on it before I swapped it in. I want this to be clean!
