To paint or not to paint.....?

Post by pete3323 »

My painter has suggested, and I’m tending to agree with him, that the cowl on the hood and side mirrors should be painted black to match the car. His feeling is that if they are painted flat black they are left with no clear to protect from the sun(I’m in SoCal) and will fade. I just think they will look better in matching black. Thoughts?

If leaving the door mouldings on, I’d paint them glossy black to match the rest of the car. However, I’d paint the cowl, side mirrors, door/window trim flat black like it was done from the factory. I’ve seen repainted Mustangs with glossy black on all these parts and the end result just doesn’t look quite right.

I would just leave them flat black, like Z said it looks kinda hideous painted glossy black. They are easily touched up later down the line, does the car see the outside all the time?

Keep it original unless you are planning on putting gold daytons on it.

. ——-LOL!!

I agree with the others that it would look best with the original flat paint on the mirrors and trim.

Flat. I've always thought that painting the mirrors and trim body color made it look like the painter was lazy and didnt remove them when the car was painted.

Are your originals worn/faded? If so, I see your options as:

1. Trim paint:

2. Replace the parts with repops.

I wouldn’t go body color/gloss with the trim pieces.

It’s unanimous, Pete! Tell your painter not to be lazy and use flat black where it’s supposed to be used! ;)

I know, have always been curious, the car in the video has hard top mirrors (but painted, and a good example of why not to do it)

It all depends on someones taste, and if someone wants to keep there car stock looking.
