To recreate 93 Cobra Website? [emoji848]

Post by SVT4942 »

Seeing as this site is dead and the owner won’t sell it or deligate to helpers (like me) cough cough, what do you all think about me duplicating on SVTperformance.com? Admin invited me to do it and get it back running.

I know NOTHING about websites, but as I mentioned over there, there is a huge resource of old data here that is really important. If 100% of the data here cant be saved why bother. A very similar BMW M3 site disappeared in the last year or so, and it was a huge loss (our kids are into E46 M3's)

Damn FB

Maybe forums will come back like manuals seem to be (unlikely).

Yes, a LOT of data here. Problem is a large number would try to register, then couldn’t, they couldn’t reach the owner to notify, never received responses, so they gave up. Same with the Registry. Everyone asks to have it updated and zero updates or responses. Therefore, everyone quit coming here and went to FB Cobra page.
Id like to keep options open. I’ve had a few 93 Cobras since 2007 and this site has always been a PITA.

Thanks Buddha! I will keep you posted. Working on a 93 GT and then TT on my GT350. Maybe we can chat offline in how to copy an entire forum.

I think it's a great idea. If some or most of the info can be imported, all the better. I used to be semi-active on a few FB car groups, but now as it is one of the most despised companies in the world, I am there only to sell things, and not very often - or at all hopefully in the near future. I certainly do hope that the forums come back, some are still going strong and may yet get stronger.

Ok, thanks Mike! FB is convenient although guys murder each other on the Cobra site. A forum holds all this info, just can’t let it die.

Without direct access to the database, a copy would be hard. Best case scenario would be to recreate what you can, it would be a manual process.

Agree. Will is withholding the list that Kevin H (site owner) gave him. I’m at my boiling point with this database aka “secret list”.

Ha, well I'm sure he would sell it if the money was right. It's been asked more than once.

I can't say I'd pay much for it, it's a zero revenue. It would be strictly for the forum history, so what's that worth to the average hobbyist?

Would be pretty cool to see another site and "active" as well. I think I saw Kevin mention on Facebook he might be willing to sell the site as he stated he has no time for it. If someone could get this site for cheap, I think enough people on Facebook are interested and we could get some good traffic again. Goodluck….. :headbang:
