As the Cobra was basically a tape/graphic/hood scoop package in '79 w/the 2.3 turbo motor, I wonder if the seller has documentation to back up the build story. If true, this is certainly an interesting vehicle.

Now about that questionable N.A.D.A. printout ....

And the '83 motor had 175hp, so that "tons of power, throws you back in your seat" comment may be overly enthusiastic.

I have seen this one talked about on Corral or SVT, if I remember correctly the story had a lot of holes in it....

Z, the 5.0L engine was available in a '79 Cobra as well. Just wasn't a H.O. 5.0L.

The story about this cat getting permission from Ford to run a car that he somehow bought brand new but engineless from them, back through the assembly line four years later to have the latest 4v engine and five speed installed is in contention for the coveted "Internet bullshit story of the day" prize (a five dollar shopping spree at Dollar Days) on whatever date the ad was placed. Sadly, I don't think it made the top five, though it might of if the assembly line workers were all hot lesbians.

Now that makes no sense! The hot lesbians didn't work in Dearborn until the '88 model year.

As a former autoworker, back in the day, guys would walk the car they ordered down the line. The car they ordered of course would be a stripped down model, cheap as you could order it. Of course once the workers knew it was your vehicle, in went all the top of the line options for said vehicle. Best radio, interior.......what have you. That being said, can't say I've ever heard of a body in white going back through the plant years later for the drivetrain. Not to say that it couldn't happen, but I sure as hell wouldn't think it would have been advertised or "permission asked" for such project. All that stuff was done under the table.

The story is completely plausible though, especially if he was the plant manager. Our plant managers got by with similar stuff, always had test mule cars before the production stuff hit the streets. I don't think it would be that difficult to disprove or otherwise.
