#45 '87 MUSTANG SALEEN,33K MILES,5.0L,UNTOUCHED STOCK ORIG

Up for sale is my 1987 Ford Mustang Saleen hatchback. No clone here, this is the real deal. It is car #45 of 278 Saleen Mustangs made in 1987. It has 33,000 original miles and has never been modified , wrecked or abused in any way, shape or form. I have had several Saleen's over the years and it is the nicest one I have seen in a very long time. I searched long and hard to find this car and the only reason I am selling it is because I recently purchased a 1993 Cobra R and needed the parking space but still could not part with the Saleen and then 2 weeks ago I bought a 2000 Cobra R also so now the Saleen needs to find a new home.

It is 1 of 2 Black Saleens built in 1987 with a factory sunroof which is a pretty rare option by itself. It is a 2 owner car from new and I have all the original Ford and Saleen paperwork including the Window sticker, books, records, manuals, Saleen sales brochures and more. The car was sold through Performance Autosport in 2002 with 5,000 miles on it to the second owner. I have several maintenance receipts from over the years and the majority of them were air conditioning repairs and yes it currently works and blows cold!!! The car even still has the original Escort radar detector that came as original equipment on all 1987 Saleen's.

The paint and body are in excellent shape especially considering 1987 Ford black paint was terrible at best and it shines bright and shows great from every angle. The only blem worth mentioning on the whole car is the rear spoiler has some hairline cracks in various places which is very common. It could easy be fixed and made perfect but cars are only original once. The interior is like new and everything on the car works. Mechanically it is a please to drive and really is a flashback car. Everything is still tight and feels solid like only a low mileage car can. I have had lots of fox bodies since I was a kid and no matter how much time and money I spent on them you can never put them back together the same as when they left the factory.

An 87 saleen with a sunroof, is very rare! Of all the 87 Saleen's that I've seen, which is not many, I've never seen one with a sunroof! Nice Saleen.

it seems all Saleens are 1 of 1 or whatever.. i guess i dont see the hype behind all the numbers on saleens. IMO honestly is anyone who has a saleen says its 1 of 10 or whatever, but EVERYSALEEN is like that.

so when owners say that it is 1 of 3, it doesnt get me going really, because they are not FACTORY FORD DAP CARS, they are glorified GTs with some performance mods and body styling.

anyone else feel the same as me?

dont get me wrong, I love em because they are mustangs and good history, but rarity factor is not something I think of when I hear saleens.

Its no different than cobras being 1 of any #. All it is a production number( or option(s)#). Take it for what its. Knowing that history on any car is always well appreciated when buying a car. Does it add valve, maybe. If its 1965 Shelby R code that was one of 30 or 35, then everyone with jump all over and say how rare THAT car is (which to me is rare).

Saleen world is no different than any other Mustang group. People will always know production # and how rare certain years are with certain options. The "everyday" Saleens will bring ok money. However with Saleen its the really low #(total production) cars that will bring interest and money, SC, SSC, any SA (10,15,20) car etc. They are rare and there 1 of whatever # is important in the Saleen world.

Of the 5664 04 Cobras, does it matter that there is 495 mystichrome verts? (Humor intended)....

Ever seen a Marti report from a 60's Ford where there were countless options? They drill all the way to the one of xx to the extreme.

saleen is similar to the 60's where there are a LOT of options, colors, body style, radios, gears, brakes, seats, custom paints, super charged, extremes, s351s, speedsters, base lx, gt, or Cobras. It goes on and on. As mentioned above, there are some groups that truly do stand on their own, like SSC, SC, S351, Rs, SA, extreme, and the special colors saleen colors. Is the worst 2005-9, 4669 cars, 22 different models.

In the case of this car, there were only 279 total in 87, making it even easier to whittle it down quick. And in total, there is in the neighborhood of 13,000 total saleen mustangs from 84 to now, vs how many mustangs? Any saleen is "rare" when compared to mustangs in general.

You should modify your Mystichrome, DB. Then it'll be 1 of 1! Can't get more unique than that. ;)
