What's it worth?

Post by Dan »

I've had my 1993 Cobra since it was new and use it as my daily driver. It's #276. Teal with grey cloth. Was going to put some money in to it but have decided to get something new. The engine, suspension and brakes are stock. What do you think is a fair price? Thanks for your input.

Don't know why some of the pics are rotated during upload.

Pros
- Original owner.
- Documentation (except for window sticker).
- Original engine and transmission.
- Still has good power.
- Have used OEM replacement parts except for the current distributor and throttle body.
- Water pump replaced a few months ago.
- Oil pan gasket and rear main gasket replaced about one year ago.
- Replaced the clutch assembly about one year ago.
- Repainted with the proper teal 4.5 years ago.
- Replaced the quarter windows (with windows that have the Mustang silkscreen) when repainted.
- Replaced most of the weather-stripping when repainted.
- Side mirrors painted at the same time as body.
- Replaced headlights and blinkers when repainted.
- At work, has always been parked under covered parking except for the first couple years after purchasing it but used a quality cover.
- Has always been garaged when parked at home.
- Has always been an Arizona car, so no rust.
- Original wheels.
- Passenger seat, rear seat, carpet and dashboard in great condition.

Cons
- Some chipping on the front-end due to road debris.
- 216,500 miles.
- Driver's side door replaced due to being backed in to.
- Ticking sound in the engine, which sounds like a lifter.
- Doesn't overheat but runs about 25 degrees above normal temp in summer traffic.
- Driver's seat very worn.
- 3rd gear syncro needs to be replaced.
- Intermittent electrical issue - The temp gauge usually goes up when turning on the lights and/or turning the blower fan on high.
- Wheels have stains from age.
- Airbag light flashes. Multiple mechanics think it's the sensor in the steering column, which it appears the particular sensor was used on only the '93 Cobra and '93 Capri. I've looked for one a few times but not able to find a replacement.
- Switch for side mirrors broken.
- Passenger door handle broke (just today).
- Original radio stopped working several years ago and so replaced. I still have the original and will include it if the purchaser wants it.
- Window tint needs to be removed or replaced.
- Small hole in headliner from when it was in the shop being repainted.

Another "pro" is it was a 1-owner car, which is neat.

Pictures would help when assessing value.

The pending engine and electrical overhauls will hurt the value the most in my opinion.

Man, if I was in the market for another one and DD, I would hop on this project. That’s great you’re the original owner! GLWS

1 owner, Arizona car, teal/cloth combo. All are a plus, would be a great light project car assuming the body and paint are in overall decent condition. A DIY type person could rebuild the drive-train and freshen up the interior and suspension.

That being said, if it's a hot mess in terms of overall condition, that will drive the price down. Pics?

When you come up with a price, I am also interested in talking if the above poster chooses to pass on purchasing.

Very solid looking car all around, guessing the interior is as in good shape less the normal wear and tear. Even with the known issues, I would put it out there for $10k. Guess it depends on how bad you want to sell, and if you can find a buyer willing to put a few thousand in it to get it up to snuff.

One more "pro" is the COLOR!

I like cars that POP and that are different. It's why I have Mystichrome Terminators and a 00R. I like an eye-catching car. There are diehard fans of each of the 3 colors, but for me, I see black and red cars every day I am out driving. It's rare to see a color in the Teal spectrum on the road, so it grabs my attention when I see one in passing. The metallic paint loves the sun too!

Teal Metallic is definitely a "pro!"

Wow, you can't tell it has 200k, why are you looking to sell now since you have had it so many years?

I see that your location is Mesa, AZ. Years ago I saw another '93 teal Cobra in this area a couple times. It was probably the late '90s that I last saw it. Could that have been yours by chance?

I'm interested in getting a new Mustang and don't have room in the garage to also have my current one, and I don't want to spend the money for a storage unit that's big enough to store it. If I had room in the garage I'd keep it.

There's a reason for that. Teal belongs in the 80s along with Big Hair, Boomboxes and Break Dancing! ;)

Dan -- In all seriousness, I'd ask $12K for your car. Despite the high miles and the other cons you listed, it's a one-owner Cobra that looks to have been well cared for. And we all know that the Fox bodies are getting more and more popular as the years go by and our Cobras turn 25.

Funny!

Just so happens, I dig the 80s!

Very well could be, not too many around these parts.
