cleaning spark plug wires

Post by cityboy21 »

Scored a set of 1993 date coded wires with the original distributor cap and all the original wire looms. They need a good cleaning but curious what I can use that will be aggressive enough to clean them without removing the date coding, wire numbers or the Motorcraft insignia. Tried some WD-40 on one wire but noticed some fading of the stamps on that wire. Don't want to proceed if there is something better to use out there.

Might try some diluted simple green, dawn dish soap to cut the grease off.

Thanks WillyB. I did end up using Dawn dish soap to get off the easy stuff first and followed up the tough stuff with WD-40 making sure to not take off any of the original stamps. Came out pretty nice actually.
