Painting Side Mirrors & Door Trim

Post by Z282SLO »

After 22 years, it's finally time for a re-paint of my side mirrors and door window trim pieces. For those that have done this, what grit sandpaper or combination of sandpaper did you use to prep the surfaces?

The window trim is pretty easy, just buy a scuff pad and use on them. Do you have the tool to remove the trim? The mirrors depends how rough they are, might have to start around a 400 grit and work you way up. It may take several coats to make it look decent, buy the SEM trim black paint comes out pretty nice if the prep work is decent.

Thanks, Will. The SEM trim black is already on its way; however, I've yet to check my Service Manual with regard to removing the trim pieces. What tool is required?

look in the door jamb at the end of the moulding there should be a small rivit , remove it then slide the moulding back a couple of inches and it will lift off.
