Tailpipe Removal

Post by Cobra4683 »

is there only two options when it comes to removing the pipes cut or remove the rear end? For some reason I dont realy want to cut the pipes but at the same time I am not ready to drop the rear end (might need to push it around a little). Can I get by if I just remove the shocks and lower the rear as far as it will go? Also there is no gas tank. Too Hot right now so I thought I would throw this out there. Might try this tonight if it cools down a bit. might just say screw it and cut the things.

Thanks

Jack the car up in the rear somewhere else other than the diff.

You should be able to work them out of there.

Now do you really think that I would have the stands on the axels? Removing shocks didn’t work, rear coming out tonight. Should not be any need to move the car for some time. She’s about to be reborn.

You DONT need to drop the axle to remove the exhaust although you must be patient in it's removal. I just did this last month and here's my tips.

1. support the car on jackstands just ahead of the axle. have the jackstands as high as safely possible.
2. unbolt the quad shock from one side and the shock from the axle but you don't need to remove them.
3. to remove the passenger side exhaust, use a floor jack and raise the driver side of the axle, this will move the pass side lower and give you more clearance to get the exhaust out. NOTE the bottom of the spring will leave it's perch slightly so mark it or note where it lies so you can position it in place when putting back together.
4. do the same for the other side
5. Also, make sure when fishing out the exhaust that you keep your eyes on where the tailpipes are. They may get close to the inside of the rear bumper at points and if you pull too hard, it may put stress on the paint and/or crack it.

Let me know if any q's

A lift would be best, maybe you know someone that works at a place that might be able to let you use it or help you do it.

Well I am not exactly sure but after 150,000 hard miles she need a face-lift. I do know that I am not going to put it back stock but for the most part if it was unique to the Cobra it will remain. When people walk up to it, beside mustang guys, I want them to think it stock. But for the most part I just want it to be like when I got it in 95, clean.

I'll keep you posted and take lost of pictures of mods. I have already take a few hundred pictures so I know how to put it back together. Now that the complete rear is out I need to take some more. But what's BADBOYSPACK talking about resale?
