Grinding in 5th

Post by jstanley55 »

Driving back from so cal last night and everytime I shifted to 5th I get a little grind. If I double clutch it everything slides right in no problem. I am thinking syncro's but a friend mentioned maybe a bent clutch fork. Figured I'd see what the consensus is here...

A fifth sycro would be very, very odd. The norm is 3rd. Not saying it couldn't be, but not the usual suspect. Either way, sounds like it needs to come out.

Original or aftermarket clutch? What about the self adjuster, or the adjustment of the clutch?

I am sure it's aftermarket. Would it being out of adjustment effect just 5th?

Funny I was already thinking I need to call your uncle on Monday and get a quote if I bring him the tranny. It's been loud for a while so I figure a it's time for a good rebuild.

I wouldn't think so, but I would be checking everything before tearing it out.

I talked to my uncle so if you do decide to go that route he knows you might be stopping by

My T5Z would do that if I ran through the gears and shifted into fifth about the time I let out of it (say 90-100 mph).

Regular driving its never done it.
