Torque boxes

Post by rw93cobra »

How big of a deal is it if the torque boxes are cracked? A friend of mine has a 90 gt that he just bought that they were cracked. I welded them for him with a mig and with a little paint, you can't tell anything was ever wrong. It was supercharged before, but it was taken off. Do you think there is any need to strengthen them being the car is pretty much stock?

I do not think there is any need to stregthen them now that you have welded them. It is propably stronger now with the welds than it was stock.

The car is pretty much stock with the exception of gears and exhaust. The supercharger and some other items were taken off before he bought it.

Well then It should be fine. Just making sure he didnt have like every bolt on imaginable on it. But still like I said earilier. If you welded it, it would be stronger than stock for sure.

If they are not torn now and its back to stock there is no need for welding them.

Could someone post a pic of damaged torque boxes? I always hear people reference this problem but I've never seen it.
