Need Help......SMOG PUMP

Post by jjstone »

Hey fella's-- Just wondering if any of you have removed your smog pump and assocated parts...??? I just got off the fender, from putting in a set of valve covers and adjustable fuel regulator and I broke a couple VAC lines and in-line EGR valve off the pipe. I got X-pipe and was going to remove it anyway. Any kit out there? (besides just the pump pulley replacement)
I have no dummy lights on....so can I just remove it all???? Thanks for your help.

Here is my advice, leave it on so that my children can breathe clean air. Also, if you take it off it will lower the value of your car and will just be another non- stock Cobra that has been torn appart. And in my opinion there is not enough of a performance advantage in smog equipment removal that is worth hacking up a '93 cobra but if you still want to do it then the answer to your question is yes, you can just take it all off.

LOL, it seems like you are heading in the right direction on what you want to do. Is'nt that the most important?

It's pretty much all there with a couple tweaks for summer, I only get 90 days tops to drive it and then it gets put to sleep or torn apart for another project. 14 year old cars need lot of love, LOL!!!

LOL.. Smog pumps do not create cleaner air as far as removing emissions. The cats do all of the emissions work

All it does is pump air into the exhaust.

I believe the smog pump provides fresh air w/oxygen to the convertor to help burn up the unused fuel .

I thought it fed into the h-pipe after the cats. Of course it has been years since I have had a stock h-pipe so I can't remember for sure. I know that one of the tubes feeds into the back of the heads but that is pretty much usless by about 30-40k miles because they completely clog up with carbon
