Can you post of pic of the shaft, where it meets the firewall? Might give us a better idea of what the hold up is.

Also, where the bolt goes through, can you see if you're getting any movement at all?

I'll get some pics tonight. Thanks.

Doesn't look like any movement. Hole has not made it far enough down to see the shaft through it yet...

I had a problem like this when I replaced my steering rack. Ultimately, I wrapped a chain around the shaft and pulled while my Dad beat the hell out of it with a hammer and that got it to move. Whaling on it with a hammer alone just couldn't quite get enough power to move it, especially since you hardly have any room to swing at it.

OK...broke down and had the car trailered to a local shop where they reattached the steering. Going to send my so-called mechanic a bill for this, since it was his job to get it together and I ended up beating on it until I couldn't stand it anymore and got it done at a shop. What do you think the chances are he'll actually pay up since I can't get his sorry ass to show up??

If you know where his shop is located I'm sure there is some way you could make sure he pays

Well, he's one of those mobile mechanics...works out of a van. I'm sure I could find out where he is to make sure he pays!

I asked what they did to get to work out and he said a little spray, and little tapping and a little time. No special tools or anything. I whailed on that thing for hours and nothing...he just gave it some little tappy taps and did it?!?! Something is wrong here!

You guys like that Happy Gilmore reference, eh? LOL! I relived that scene multiple times. Tapping the damn steering shaft, tapping the damn steering shaft...it going nowhere and me throwing the damn hammer in the street!
