Haven't priced them lately, but I think yo can get an Eaton Diff for a couple hundred. If you not going to race and are not going to put slicks on, 28's will be fine. But, if your not on a budget, I would go with the 31's and get either a used or new Differential.JohnLynch wrote:how much would a different differential cost? What exactly does that entail? I really just set it up to cruise the street not going to be drag racing.BrettT 93|03 wrote:John, go with 31's, their better and & stronger.
I went 10.0's in my old race car w/31's
28 spline vs 31 spline?
for what you are asking for I would stay with the 28 spline. Unless you go over 300 rwhp or you put slicks or drag radials on it you are wasting money. The differential is anywhere from about $240 - 850 depending on quality and desired performance. you will need new ring gears and a rebuild kit once start to reassemble the rear end. If you are looking at a simple swap this isn't it. Not hard, but will require someone who can set up gears properly.

I have a ford trac loc 8.8 out of a F150 that is 31 spline I'd part with.BrettT 93|03 wrote:Haven't priced them lately, but I think yo can get an Eaton Diff for a couple hundred. In that case, 28 spline is more than enough. Extremely rare to break an axle on the street without massive traction.
I would go with a set of 28 spline mosers and be done with it.
By the way, BE SURE when you order that you tell them it is a 93 Cobra. The axles are 3/4" longer per side vs a standard 5.0...
