Lowering the Cobra
Lowering the Cobra
Getting close to the time to buy some springs and would love to see some pictures with the car lowered on Cobra rims and the type/brand of spring. This car will never be a daily driver again so I am not scared to drop it. I have never liked the 4x4 look and always wanted to lower it but didnt because it was my only car.
Thanks

Steeda's competition springs will lower your car about 1.25. I've got a set of these, but they were called 5th anniversary springs then.
Be sure to budget for CC plates and either a bumpsteer kit or offset rack bushings to correct the alignment and all....
Hell, while your at it go for a set of Tokico 5ways. You'll be happy you did.

What all is REALLY needed to lower them besides springs? Do you really need aftermarket camber/caster plates? Shocks? And Poly bushings and other crap? I'm only looking go go 1" lower...

Even at a 1" you change all geometries. Steering, Sway Bar, Camber and Pinon Angle.ceetwarrior wrote:What all is REALLY needed to lower them besides springs? Do you really need aftermarket camber/caster plates? Shocks? And Poly bushings and other crap? I'm only looking go go 1" lower...
Camber can be done with CC plates or Camber Bolts.
Sway bar is just shorter end links.
Steering bumpsteer or offset bushings.
Pinon Angle adjustable arms or lots of other crap.
How close do you want to get it? You would probably be just fine with camber bolts.

So, it can be done with only springs and new camber bolts? But, you're saying to get it the best it can be would be get a kit? Who sells a good complete KIT? Steedas website show's their stage one kit as only springs, cc plates, and a crossbar which I don't need.
I'm just trying to get a ballpark on how much I need to set aside for lowering... All I'm after is lower and smooth ride. I don't need scca racing stuff....

You originally stated “REALLY need”. For lower and smooth you will most likely want new shocks, most shocks are not mint for lowered car. As far as the CC plate I would run them instead of the bolts. The bolts are oval and not as thick as the stock bolts so they can’t be as strong. But you are going to want a stiffer than stock spring because when you lower the car 1” you lose 28% of the original jounce. This brings you back to the shocks because of the stiffer springs you want good shock. Now you’re low, smooth and broke. When I get some money in the bank I am going with…. http://www.stangsuspension.com/store/co ... roduct=346
I also want the panhard bar and the torque arm. I will be broke for a long time.

Holy crap! $1500!!! OK, I don't want to be that smooth. So, I guess back to what I can get away with or (really need), haha.
Springs $250, plates $200, shipping $20?, Shocks outrageously priced From $100 each??? WTF, Maybe I'll just leave my car how it is..
