Replacing rear main -new clutch?

Post by MJH »

I am replacing the rear main seal next week, the car has 51k on it should I go ahead and replace the clutch? The clutch still feels great and there is no noise coming from it. If I should replace it what clutch should I go with?

Best thing to do, is just look at it once you have it out, also use a Ford rear seal, Best clutch is the king cobra for a replacement. My local Ford dealer has a few left in stock, as they are discontinued now.

Sometimes the crank flange will have a groove worn in it and a new seal won't fix it, but they sell a repair sleeve that you drive on the crank.

Are you draining both drain plugs, and also may want to put a new PCV Valve in it, they tend to get block up, causing some crank case pressure.

As for the King Cobra CLutch my buddy has a few left in stock, Ford no longer makes them or carries them in stock.

Also A Ford rear main seal is the only way to go. Autozone seals work for a while, but Have seen many leak after replacing a few weeks/months

I have also seen grove in the crank, but mostly on really high mile cars.

How much do the clutches go for? Also why does the ford seal work better? Drain both plugs?

I didn't do it a shop I use did it. Problem is should I have to pay the whole labor rate again?

It was a rear main from latemodelrestoration.

Where can I get a Ford rear main seal?

Could that be the case with 133k? I guess I will let him know if he hasn't checked already.

There is two drain plugs, one in the front and one in the back of the oil pan.

Why would that make a difference?
