IIRC for the Fox 5.0 front seat switches (and also based on the same switch setup on the 94-95 5.0's), yes the upholstery is breached. You will see this at the front or face of the lower seat cushion, once the track controller switch is removed from the cushion, the wire harness protrudes through a small slit in the upholstery (same applies to the side lumbar switches).

ALSO NOTE:
The Fox/SN95 lower POWER seat frames also have a separate small metal bracket to which the front track controller switch would be secured to via (2) screws. If you are converting manual seats to power, you will either need to A) transfer over the bracket to your manual seat frame, B) use the lower seat pwr seat frame or C) fabricate your own little bracket to secure the switch to on the frame. All easy to do.

If converting to pwr seats OR installing non-pwr upholstery (new or used) for pwr options and the provision for the front seat switch (and/or side lumbar switch) was never made - you will have to cut the upholstery. Its very easy to do.

Determine the location of where the factory switch locations will be for the track and lumbar. Once you determine that, you will need to make a small incision into the upholstery material to insert the back of the switch into (track controller or lumbar switch). You do NOT want to make a big hole, start out with only a small slit in the shape of an "X" that will be smaller than the diameter of a dime! The "X" shape allows the switch to be seated correctly and the material will not rip as opposed to just making a round punctured hole. As stated start small, test fit the SWITCH into the hole and make the hole gradually larger as needed. Once you can properly fit the switch so the back of the switch meets the upholstery without interference, connect the wire harness (and/or lumbar vac lines if applicable). If you are comfortable with the positioning of the switch, use a small center punch or the actual mounting scews to push through the cover plate screw hole openings to penetrate the upholstery and so screws line up to the small bracket behind the upholstery. After making the screw hole incisions, insert screws and tighten up the switch so that it's secured to the seat. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS, if you do, you will surely crack the switch cover plate or its plastic surround. Done!

Thanks. I was actually looking to swap my driver seats between my GT and cobra, the GT seat is in better condition. The problem is the cobra is power and gt is not. I don't want a hole in the non power seat.
