Tinted window thoughts....

Post by vrinner »

I've always been a fan of tinted windows for looks and function (SoCal). However I know that among other car groups tinting is looked down on, especially with low mile cars.

General thoughts here?

You'll get two responses on this site -

(1) From the "keep it stock" crowd - "What?!? Tint the windows on that low-mileage Cobra. No way!"

(2) From the "modified" crowd - "Do whatever makes you happy."

As I'm from the modded Cobra crowd with tinted windows, I say go for it.

NOTE: This post is not meant to imply that should you decide not to tint, you won't be happy. ;)

I'm kinda in the middle.

If you get your windows tinted, they will most likely remove the Seatbelt sticker on your window. (So you will need to buy some replicas if that bothers you). The part that makes me cringe is tinting the back window because of the rear defroster. Its a pain to remove the tint from a rear window and not damage the rear defroster.

A huge plus side in tinting windows even for people who like stock is it helps reduce the fading on a interior. If you do that and also keep the amount of heat reduced inside (by cracking your windows) your interior will last longer.

Unless your cobra is under 10,000 miles, I might not even worry to much about it.

Agree with him⬆⬆⬆⬆⬆ unless you have a wrapper or sub 10 k mile car that you wouldn't drive anyway no tint. But for cars at car shows and out in sun tint!!! Plus it comes off for the next owner if need be. Not like your painting it or pulling the engine.

If the only cons for you is other people giving you their opinions about the tint then tint it up!!!
Personally I'd tint it. So much nicer to drive a car with tint than without not to mention the benefits above too

I am a fan of tint on my DD's, been thinking of tinting the coupe I just picked up. I think it would make the cobra look good but just can't do it to it.

I'm not a fan of tint even on my DD. Here in NY it's illegal to have it too dark. There's a percentage the LEO go by. I just don't bother.

But you have to admit it looks better? And no headlight in yours mirrors at night or sun in your face during the day... So many pro's :)

Yes. In some instances, it looks better. Just not my 'cup of tea'.

Something about a really clean stock car with no tint just makes it look that much...well...stock. I'd certainly say after looking at some of the other red car pics with really dark tint I'm not sure about going too dark...especially on the driver/passenger window. I not worried about the stock stickers on the windows.

Normally I go limo black on the rear and quarters and a step lighter for the driver/passenger window. I think I'll go for lighter all the way around for this red car.

My local tint shop also has some ceramic/titanium/unobtanium tint for the front window. Not really a tint as much as it's a heat/uv deflector.

Thanks for the input guys.

I always tint my cars, I just bought an escalade that is bone stock and it is getting tinted this week I cant stand the sun beating down on me during the summer... been dragging my feet on tinting the teal since it spends most of its time under the cover I think it will look better though...
