Map-pocket fix for first timers

Post by Romo93 »

I couldn't find anything when searching and I remember someone on here did a nice write up on the process of tightening up the map-pockets.

Can someone give me the basics? Mine are sagging a bit and I want to tighten them up. Or copy and paste the old thread into here. :headbang:

You will have to take the door panels off and then remove the map pockets. on the back you will see how the elastic comes thru and staples to the board I just removed the staples and tighten up the elastic unless it needs the whole pocket replaced. But if it is just sagging a little and not torn it should tighten up nicely.

Don't jinx yourself there, Romo! It's those "easy" projects that can be quite a headache sometimes.

Exactly! I can see it now:

Take door skin off, fix map-pockets and all the plastic fasteners break from being 20 years old and it turns into a shopping list to fix.... :surprised:

The plastic push pins are cheap, might just plan on replacing a few before you even tear it apart.

If Im not mistaken, I think the back of the door panel is made of masonite where the push pins mount. if your don't have a door panel tool or pull to hard on the panel, the head of the push pin could come through the masonite. Thats about the worst thing that could happen on this project.
