Determine what parts to keep after repairing your Cobra

Post by POOBLAH »

So as some of you might know, I just finished rebuilding my entire front suspension. I fixed alot of problems, but now I need to determine what parts to keep and which can be pitched. From a collect ability standpoint everyone wants our cars to be as original as possible. So what do I keep?

Heres what I have left from the build:

Lower Front Control Arms:
*Passenger side has a bad ball joint and worn bushing
Replaced with Ford Racing Lower Front Control arms (M-3075-A)

Front Springs:
*Passenger side was weaker and created a lean in the car
Replaced with new takeoff 93 Cobra front springs

Front Spring Isolators:
*Typical Wear
Replaced with Ford OEM isolators both top and bottom

Struts:
*Not original equipment
Replaced with 03-04 Mach One Tokico Ford Struts

Brakes:
*Obviously not original
Replaced with Hawk Ceramics

Sway Bar Bushing:
*Cracked and worn originals
Replaced it with Polyurethane Moog bushings.

Sway Bar Links:
*Typical wear, slightly bent on each where the sway bar connects
Replaced with Ford OEM links

Things I wasn't planning on keeping were the Sway Bar Links, Bushings, Brakes, Struts, Spring Isolators

I'm kinda up in the air about some of the other things.

What do you all think? What do you look for in a higher mileage car or one that has been restored?

While original parts are highly sought after, IMO if the suspension parts you mentioned are worn out or damaged and not usuable and would never be safe to put back on a car, what's the point of keeping them?

So keep the serviceable parts.... Like the control arms.

What about the springs? Im up in the air on those because its a pre-production car and the springs were what they were trying to figure out. (Granted the fronts were the same as the GTs)

Keep control arms - ball joints and bushings can be replaced in them.

Keep the springs - most have discarded original factory springs - once gone, gone forever.

The rest of the stuff, trash. No one is going to want worn out isolators, brake parts, etc. as there really is no value in holding onto the parts.
