Fluids?

Post by MCG1238 »

Hey, I dont have a manual so I wanted to check with everyone on fluid makes/weights/filters used for differential, engine and coolant. If im missing something let me know. Im prob. gunna start with all fresh fluids so I can keep track but I cant find much on coolant or differential. I know most people use 10-30 for engine (Filter?)

Thanks!

Mobil 1, without a doubt. I've been using it for years in my Mustangs with no issues. If your engine is not leaking oil to begin with, it won't start leaking because you decided to switch to synthetic oil.

Im sorry to ask more but I want to make sure im doing the right thing for the car.

Is that 80w90 on the dif? Can I use 75w90? What brand yall use and do I need friction modifier in it?

For collant should i use Prestone Dex-Cool or just regular?

Regular anitfreeze, don't want to mix the colors. I would add some posi track fluid if you replace the rear end fluid.

I will probably just use this. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp ... erm=80w-90 Any reasons not to? Should I put friction modifier in it to?

I use the 75w90 Royal Purple gear oil, when I changed out the gear oil in my '85GT. It has the Friction Modifier already in it.

I just got the oil and filter changed for the first time since I've owned the car
15,500
they put 5 in with the filter change and it showed over?
with pulling and draining from both plugs

so they drained a little out and said check when I got it home which I did,
and it shows full?

but concerned?
they swear that their pump is accurate but will keep an eye on levels
got the factory Motorcraft filter and went with their suggested synthetic Chevron Supreme 5/30 blend

they wondered if it was the correct dip stick?
FIZE-6750-DA M
is on the stick
"yellow handle"

tried to get it in at my dealer but over 2 hour wait so I used my Kwik Kar place that I've used for years and which they still! have all of their same staff so

Before I replaced the oil pan, mine was wrong from the factory. I did my own oil changes and I knew I put in the right amount of oil but it always read as overfilled. I think the dealer said that one from a 351 read right and that's what they replaced it with but its been 20 years so the memory has faded a bit.

even the pressure gauge reads just a little less that it was before which was dead center
would like to hear more if in fact a turn 5 quarts needs to be in with a proper drain and filter replacement

I've been changing my own oil in 5.0 Mustangs for nearly 25 years and 5 quarts w/a filter change is correct. Not sure why your oil dipstick reading or pressure gauge is off assuming they drained the pan from both plugs and refilled correctly. Also, if you really want to be a stickler, you should've had them use 10W30 not 5W30, although the lighter weight oil won't be an issue.

I'm stopping by and getting that other quart of oil they offered up
and putting a little more in,
and checking the stick and the gauge again

they did drain from both plugs but who's to say that the turd in the pit just
got in a hurry and said

"ah! what the F.. that's good enough"!

if it wasn't such a pain in the ass I'd of done it myself

To revive a slightly old thread...

I just did my 1st oil change. I drained from both plugs, changed the filter, put in 5 quarts and the level shows considerably high on the dipstick. I checked the owner's manual and it just says all 5.0 engines: 5 quarts. I am assuming there is not a separate Cobra supplement to the manual (which is how my 2011 manual is).

Your assumption is correct. There was no separate supplement to the 1993 Mustang Owner's Manual for the Cobra.
