Tune up worth it?

Post by escogt »

My Cobra has 24K miles & runs just fine. Was wondering, since she is over 20 years old now, should I do a tune up (plugs, cap/rotor & fuel filter)? Is it worth the time & expense? $90 in parts from LRS.

I would appreciate your opinions. Thanks!!

Knowing the top-notch condition of your Cobra and the fact that you state it's running fine and only has 24K miles, I would not waste money on the tune-up you describe. Replacing the plugs, cap/rotor and fuel filter on a properly running engine would be a waste of time and money. Besides, the spark plugs on these cars (especially well-maintained cars kept in good condition) are good for approx. 45K miles and you're nowhere close to that.

Instead of plugs, cap/rotor and fuel filter, I would change the fuel filter only. That's an inexpensive and relatively easy to do preventive maintenance job that should be done especially if the filter is original or has not been changed in quite some time.

I'm at 11,000 miles and running perfectly as well. Last month I changed the fuel filter since the car has spent most of its life sitting. It was an easy swap and CJPony parts has a how to video.
