Full maintanance on the Cobra

Post by jiu-jitsu99 »

Since 1264 is coming up on her 45k mark I decided to get a full tune up on her. When I purchased the car on November of last year I was amazed by prestine the car was (looks like a 5k mileage car). During the drive home I noticed that the AC was working but not blowing cold air. I felt a very very small pull to the right while driving on the HWY. DJ had told me the lights were not coming on. After arriving at home from a 500 mile trip I decided to lift the car and fully inspect it from top to bottom. I noticed that the water pump was leaking a tiny bit. I was waiting for the weather to get nicer so I could take 1264 out of storage and start working on her.

Just dropped the car to get the following done (Only Ford motorsports parts!)
-Plugs
-Cap/rotor
-Fuel filter
-Spark plug wires
-Change All fluids on the car. I did an oil change 15 miles ago (Nov 14) but I have a habit of changing oils every six month even if the car is not driven (May be overkill but I am very anal with my cars).
-Change water pump
-New fan
-New serpentine belt
-New aligment
-Recharge the AC system. Still have the old R12.
-New headlight switch
-Was just told the radiator also has a small leak. So a new radiator will be in place.

2015 season here we come!!!!! :D

Probably should check the condition of the harmonic balancer as the rubber dampner deteriorates over time.

The only issue is some of the replacement parts have gotten rebuilt as cheap Chinese parts. Here is a link about the water pumps, plus the radiators have now became more aluminum with plastic tanks verse copper like the originals in our car. You might check to see if you can have the radiator repaired verse replacement. So make sure that you are getting top of the line quality or true OE NOS parts to replace them on your car, especially if you are wanting to keep it original!

Thanks my friends! I am defenitelly going to rebuild my original Radiator. I am going to install the one that I just purchased and paint it black until i can rebuild my original one. I do not want the car sitting at the shop for too long until I can find someone that rebuilds these radiators. I get super nervous when the car is not in the garage safe and sound :surprised: It is so difficult to find these OEM parts. I try my best always to only buy American made products.

I sometimes frequent Katie's C&C in Great Falls or the C&C held in Fair Lakes on Sundays. You guys should come down to one of those meets! Katie's routinely has some unreal stuff show up!

Like I said, some unreal stuff typically shows up! The "money" in this area is craaazzzy. Jay Leno has even been spotted there before among other car-guy celebrities.
