Thoughts on a gear upgrade? And weight...

Post by Brookse »

I'm sad. I got the Cobra out today and it just doesn't seem to have the same punch to me as in previous years. It's got 440 BHP and 525 TQ on the spray and I *believe* 3.27 gears. 1st gear is useless, 2nd is pretty good, 3rd is a disappointment. Would maybe going 3.55s help 3rd? I rarely drive the car so fuel economy doesn't matter.

Also, is a rear seat delete worth it? I guess if I ditched the seats and spare I might get 50lbs?

Thank you.

You can't go wrong with 3.55 or 3.73.

Better yet, save your money and drive a stock Cobra for a week or so. I bet your sadness with 440/525 will be cured!

I've driven both 355s and 373s and I can't tell a difference. Huge difference from going from stock to either though. Totally worth it. With the HP you're getting keep the seat.

Thank you gentlemen. I only get this car out from June to September, but when I do I remember why I can't sell it. It rattles, it shakes, it honestly looks cheap on the inside, but on the outside, it goes like shit and looks great. My wife thinks it's very cool. She's obviously very smart.

Okay, so 3.55s and an upgraded fuel system to get it to 500hp are the plans. Oh, and a clutch.

Thanks guys. I do appreciate your input! This is a very cool community.

I have 373's in mine with 400rwhp and it seems to be too much gear. First and second are useless. Highway driving and higher speeds aren't fun because I'm throwing up such high RPMs. I'm thinking of going to a .331 or .327 ratio.

Btw, what engine block are you running?
