Detailed my Shebly engine bay today.

Post by Goose17 »

Well, this section is called "Other Cobras"... The GT500 is not a Cobra, but I think it still works in here.

We have a GT500 meet tomorrow in DFW, so I cleaned up the engine bay on my '11 Shelby.

I started by adding some white lettering to my supercharger pulley. I just wiped the pulley clean, used a small paint brush to blob white paint into the recessed letters and then wiped off the excess after it dried a bit. I also painted the "SVT" red on my filter housing. (No picture, but you can see it in the video.)

I then cleaned the engine with some light cleaner on a rag and sprayed down everything but the polished aluminum with Majestic Solutions Quick Detail Spray.

Next was the polishing... I used my Griots 3" polisher and put a 50/50 mix of Sheen Genie and White Diamond polishes on a red pad. I hit the tanks, caps, supercharger and throttle body. I worked the good stuff in quite a bit, let it dry and then used a couple clean microfiber towels to remove the residue.

The polished pics:

Now it's time to do the exterior, but I had a slight delay - dead battery. One new battery about to be installed and the work continues.

Nice work.
Just curious, you say it's not a Cobra, but then why is there a Cobra emblem on the fenders?

C'mon fellas! Thought you would know this. The last time SVT used the Cobra name for a Mustang was in 2004. When the GT500 was introduced in 2007, it was the Shelby GT500 and remained that way every year it was made (thru 2014). You won't see "Cobra" in any of the brochures & marketing materials for these cars. The only Cobra-related thing about the GT500 over the years was the emblems, which were part of the retro styling based on the late 60s Shelby models.

Z28 is correct!

There is much confusion on the subject, even with owners and the blame lies squarely with Ford.

The Cobra emblem obviously came from the 2-seat Shelby AC Cobra. It then migrated onto the Shelby Mustangs (GT350 and subsequently the GT500). These cars were not called "Cobra", but simply Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT500. There was one odd-ball year; 1968 that the car was officially called and titled Shelby Cobra GT500.

Flash forward to 1993. SVT came out with the Cobra Mustang. It was so named in the title and could be seen on the window sticker. The SVT Cobra remained the name of the hopped-up Mustang through 2004, which ended the name "Cobra" (for now). In 2007, the Shelby GT500 was reborn. There is zero mention of the word Cobra anywhere on the car, the window sticker or the title.

Other than the one odd-ball year (1968), anytime the two words "Shelby" and "Cobra" are put together, it is in reference to a 2-seat roadster.

Here is my Shelby (misspelled the title of this thread) now that the exterior is detailed to match the engine bay:

Why white letter tires? I guess I am a fan on the older muscle cars but it looks funny to me on new muscle.
