This is a real deal,NOT a Clone, barn find 1993 Mustang Cobra. There were less than 5,000 of these cars built, total.
I bought this as a PROJECT car, but now accept that I will never finish it. It has been in my barn the last 10 years. I will take you through the good and the bad, just remember this is a 23 year old PROJECT car. If you want one in new condition, look at E Bay and be prepared to pay far more than when the car was new.
The Good:
Authentic 1993 Mustang Cobra, 100,000 miles, but the engine is stout, Ford Racing B-303 cam, Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads, cold air intake, after market headers with drag dumps. Car feels like it has lower than stock gears in the rear end. Except for the missing bumpers and spoilers, the body is in exellent condition, I have found NO RUST. Interior in decent condition and 90 % complete. Car has all 4 93 Cobra wheels..I don't see any curb rash. Sunroof shows no signsof leaking.
The Bad : Several of the 93 Cobra Specific body panels are missing. The front and rear bumper, as well as the rear spoiler, tail lights, and side skirts. The car has a small dent in front of the right rear wheel...shown in the pictures. On the cars last drive, I got a bit happy and broke the clutch, preasure plate, clutch cable, etc. Battery is dead and tires are flat. I have the title, however, is is shown as salavage since the car was once in a theft recovery.
Asking 4,995.00 OBO.

What a shame. I have most of the oem parts this car needs. Too bad it's salvage.

I wouldn't let the salvage title stop you, if I was closer, I would buy it. My last salvage title car sold for 18K. My Mystic 93 Sold for 35K it too was salvage title

Yea these cars are getting stupid. I've saw a few fully restored higher mile cars bring what I thought an original was worth.

Where did you advertise a salvage titled car that someone paid $18K for it? Ebay?aaronlstiles wrote:My last salvage title car sold for 18K.
You've been into these cars for quite some time. Do you feel this latest increase in value is just a temporary bubble or part of a permanent long term escalation in prices?SPEEDFREEK wrote:Yea these cars are getting stupid.

This is more likely long term gains in value, rather than a bubble. These cars will probably be worth even more when they hit 25, and stay high for awhile after that.

Makes me wonder if genuinely nice examples in 30 years will command what say....69-70 Boss 302's go for now?Z282SLO wrote:^^^

Both are small block/manual trans equipped, limited build (4,993 vs 7XXX) high performance special editions, have a cult following, and were designed with power and handling in mind. But the Fox SVT Cobra was only a one year build.

I think the '93 Cobra will generally follow the trend in values (at lower price points, of course!) that have been seen with the '87 Buick GNX. The GNX was a one-year only special edition in the final year of the turbo Regal platform, which is very similar to the Cobra in the final year of the Fox body platform. With a sticker just below $30K, you could get a GNX for $35K or so for the first 10-15 years after they were built. Values started to rise when the cars hit 18-20 years old ($40K-$50K) and for the last 7 years or so, pristine examples have gone for $85K+. Of course, there were less than 550 GNXs made as compared to nearly 5000 Cobras, so our values won't hit these heights.
An important factor to keep in mind with values of the performance cars of our youth is that the generation of enthusiasts that grew up in the late Eighties and early Nineties are in their peak earning years and seem to be getting more nostalgic for these cars. A similar trend occurred with our fathers' generation and the muscle cars of the Sixties and early Seventies.

I did not advertise the car, I did a build thread on Face Book on the 93 Cobra FB Page, I had a lot of people wanting the car. The car actually sold local to me. Like I always state, a car is worth what someone is willing to pay. I don't think salvage title is going to mean a whole lot in a few more years, look how many vintage Mustangs BJ sells with NO TITLE, or BILL OF SALE, or Salvage titles, they still bring 6 Figures!!
Also, I sold the Mystic 93 Cobra I built for 35K, it too had a salvage title. Don't get caught in the while title BS, if the car is CLEAN! it doesn't bother me one way or the other what the title says, when was the last time you had your title out at a car show?
