Perhaps that the stock exhaust w/cats is too quiet and literally chokes off all the improvements made to the Cobra 302 V8?

Although doing that to a pristine, low-mileage, early build Cobra was definitely a bad decision.

Lets just hope the owner didn't just put the box with the original exhaust out with the trash since he sold the car. He might have said oh I forgot to give this to the dealer....oh well I will chuck it lol
