you are the first person to ask, and I may be dumb , but I never understood what rss was good for, Maybe you can tell me?

I'm a mac user so I don't really know how it works in the PC world but I understand it's pretty popular there too. It's just alot better reading things like news and message boards in an RSS reader. It will keep track of all the places you visit, and list all the new messages there. Here is a good article that explains the benefits of RSS.
