My 1993 #23

Post by 1979rs/z28 »

Hi guys I'm a newbie to the Cobra world but not to mustangs in general as this is probably my 10th one! A guy i knew in town basically daily drove this Cobra and promised me when he decided to sell it he would let me know. That day came when the ECU went bad in it and it needed quite a bit of attention so I broke down a bought it. I'm working on it slowly but surely (just picked up last December) and its no concours restoration i am having a blast with this one and it is definitively a keeper!
So far i have completely redone the suspension: New ball joints, rack and pinion, tie rods, correct cobra rotors, new brakes and calipers all the way around, upper and lower control arms, bushings throughout and not.
Mod wise it had shorty headers, intake and 3.73s when purchased and after finding a broken intake bolt i went a good way in it. New gaskets, oil pump timing chain and freeze plugs throughout
Comp XE270 cam
Ported original heads milled .030, valve job and springs/ ported lower intake and Throttle body
Longtube BBK Headers and offroad H pipe
New Clutch, fiore quadrant and firewall adjuster
Quarterhorse Tuning software
255 LPH Fuel pump
Im sure im forgetting more.
The paint on the roof, hood and hatch was faded and the hatch had some rust. I had the roof, quarters, hood, painted and hatch repaired with metal from another hatch, still need to go over the rest and buff it and repaint the trim like I want. Next addressing will be getting the correct tail lights as it had LX lights when purchased and i just threw some 85 lights in and a total interior revamp!

First purchased

Getting there, just threw some headlights i had in for the time being going back stock
Image

Powerwashed engine bay, notice broken ac clutch and fan shroud partially missing!
Image

Decided to drop k member to paint it and do oil pan gasket. Small garage at my home didnt allow a engine pull but after owning a Modular Cobra swap car i can drop k members easily
Image

Ew dirty, car had leaks everywhere
Image

Cleaned up with longtubes and new motor mounts
Image

BMR springs and new struts and ball joints

Well put about 1500 miles on the ported GT40 setup and scored a good deal on some edelbrock performers. Going to work the exhaust ports on them some and go to some FTI LSX valve springs in them hoping itll hold the Xteme energy cam a little more. Heads are back off

Image

The old GT40s have been good

Image

The edelbrocks, going to play with the exhaust ports some while i wait for the lindy Flycutting tool (2.02 intake valve)

Plugging away slowly but surely havent had a chance to mess with the Cobra from working on everyone elses stuff. Pistons are flycut for the 2.02 intake valves and lsx valve springs from Ed Curtis have arrived.

Image

Got bored and used berrymans b12 on a rag and cleaned the pistons up after cutting

Image

Edelbrock performers and the old springs vs the new much lighter lsx springs

Finally got it all buttoned back up and going, had to enrichen the tune quite a bit was seeing 13.7 afr at WOT  but runs very well with the Heads and upgraded valvetrain
Going to try and get it on a dyno soon to see what it'll do

Measuring for pushrods, ended up needing a 6.300 Comp magnum
Image

PTV Clearance, pretty tight around .070 on the intake side exhaust well over .100. Heads were milled to 59CC chambers and used .041'' compressed head gasket.

Image

1250S3 Intake gaskets
Image

Didn't take any of it all buttoned up but will have some soon!

I've had my share of vehicles lol, probably upwards of 60 easily. Heres a few of the ones i do have pictures on my photobucket of ill get off my butt and compile them one day!

This is my old terminator swapped 2003 Automatic Mach 1, steggy ported blower, longtubes, full suspension and bolt ons. Bought it bone stock blew up the original engine on nitrous and bought a wrecked 04 cobra to swap from. Never got a clean 1/4 pass but ran a 11.4@126 on a 1.8 60'

Image

Image

Back when it was Bone stock with a h pipe and 150 shot lol

Image

My old 6 speed 6 cylinder accord, probably the best handling car ive ever had although it had tons of suspension work. Was so much fun for a Daily

Image

This was the 1993 Coupe i had a couple years, 4 cylinder conversion. Trick flow heads, intake and cam with 175 Shot on a stock bottom 302. Yes i split the block 15 or so Bottles into it :cussing:
