What is lawsuit built?

Post by boost addict »

The '93 R on ebay says #'s 101-107 were lawsuit built.

Never heard of that...

I believe a dealer in Colorado ordered some Rs and then Ford told him they oversold the orders as they were only building 100 of the r models , well he sued ford and made them build the extra 7 that were over ordered.

Lawsuite Cars

I am really surprised ford built them, Most dealers wold have just refunded the money to the buyers and told them SORRY! That's what they told me on my 03 Mach 1, but after 1 Phone call to Regional Ford rep, it was scheduled to be built the next week. Funny how one person can get shit done.

I tried to buy #103 in 2000 from the original owner Rick Salvo. At the time the car had 62 miles, and had been sitting on jackstands since 1993. Even then a true time capsule. He wanted 35K for it, I offered 27K. He ended up selling it a few years later for around 26K - 27K. The car did not have the snake emblems on the fenders and was never dealer prepped. The emblems were in the glove box.

Rick was the fleet manager for Courtesy Ford in Littleton, CO in 1993. He was part of the original lawsuit with Ford. When Ford opened the order for the R cars, they oversold the orders. I believe that Courtesy had ordered 19 cars. Cars 101-107 were known as the "Colorado Lawsuit Cars" because the dealer sued and forced Ford to build them. According to Rick, Ford had enough materials to build 7 more R cars.

This is correct, I got a chance to sit with Neil Ressler one on one a few years ago, and we were discussing the 93r (among other things), but the reason for 107 is that, that was all the brakes they had. They planed to have 100 cars, and 7 sets of brakes for parts inventory. Suit came, they build all they could, no spares left.
