Replacement Leather Seat Covers

Post by Brett »

Have any of the repop leather seat covers got any better in the past couple years? I need a drivers seat cover, and I don't really want to spend a fortune on going the SMS fabrics route to cover 1 seat and then not have it match that well. My passenger seat and rear seat are in good condition.

Or if anyone has a decent "driver" quality drivers seat, and you want to part with it. Please let me know.

There is a guy that has a red 93 Over on Corral, He Just installed New Repo Leather Seat Skins, and to my amazement they actually look really nice. I will try to find the add, I am restoring my black one and I plan to by the leather set from TMI. I hope they look as good as his set.

Wonder if those are some that he got from LMR ? I would guess he put new foam in them too ?

Seat Foam

Post by aaronlstiles »

He said he used Original Foams. I used a new TMI foam on My white 93, I really don't like it much, they are really hard, and sit kind of high. I did put a nice Original seat cover on it. It looks nice, but very firm, and he told me he bought them from LMR.

The problem you are going to have is matching the OEM stuff if you try and do just one seat. I believe the TMI stuff out now is pretty close. I'd like to see the stuff in person. I'd redo both fronts anyway........the Ford stuff sucked out ot the gate.

I redid mine a few years ago and the leather is far superior, looks great, and is an easy one day job. I don't recall the exact color I used, but it was as close to factory as I could get.

Seat Covers

An easy 1 day job? I need to meet your Uhlpostery guy, LOL. Mine takes about 3 weeks to make new Covers. If you look at the link to corral, He said he only replaced his Front covers. They look like they match pretty good. I would replace them all. IMOP.

I was referring to the actual install, as the covers are prestitched. All I had to do was remove the wire rods from the old seat covers and transfer them over the new covers. Then it's just a matter of cutting out the holes for the lumbar and whatnot, then hog-ringing them into place. I was very pleased with the the fit and quality.

Are yours the TMI Covers from LMR? I used a set of their Cloth covers when they First came out, and was less than Impressed. But it seems the Leather Covers Fit and look pretty good.

I don't believe these were from TMI. I bought them from Texas Mustang years ago. I could see the cloth being an issue as it would seem to me that is would be hard to get the material to fit snug to the seats.
