Hi Tony glad to see you got the 86 coupe back. That car is sharp. I remember how fresh the interior was. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. We should get together before winter sets in. Give me a call some weekend if you want to get together.

Wildo Tom, that's Cobra is beautiful! Love the undercarriage! The little 86 notch is just a nice driver, but, atleast I can enjoy driving her unlike the 1500 mile 89!

An update on my 204,000 mile cobra #2296. I had the rear end rebuilt using the Ford Racing 03/04 Cobra Carbon kit and Ford Racing 3.73 gear installed. Also put Bilstein Quad shocks on the car. It still had the orig. e5ZZ quads. I really like the Bilstein quad shocks. The original owner replaced the rear shocks with Motorcraft about 3k miles ago. Rides great. I changed out the roof and door moldings with NOS Ford. I have also been busy bringing the paint back. I worked on it a lot over the summer by hand, but it needed more. I have been using a porter cable and Meguiars Ultimate Compound. The results are nice. Here is a pic of the hood. The shine hides most of the flaws from the side, but from the front the paint crazing on the nose and the nicks on the hood are still pretty obvious. It is as good as it will be.

It's amazing what a little work can do to some of these old cars with some TLC.

How does the motor look? Any detail work to show for the miles? I like seeing the higher mile cobras that are very clean, the sub 10k mile cars seem to be to easy to keep looking new its the drivers that impress me.

Awesome job Tom! No one cleans up a fox better than you. I wouldn't be surprised if the engine compartment looks as nice as that paint  you ditch those blue hoses yet

Thanks Tony. I just used some rags and degreaser on the engine. It was clean when I bought it. The engine never had any oil leaks and that always helps. The FMS hoses have been on the car since 2/2/97 at 49611 miles. Since they have been on the car so long and the original owner put them on, I am going to leave them alone.

Have spent some time on the front suspension using degreaser and rags. I plan on replacing the struts with some F3ZZ cobra specific NOS struts I received as a gift for Christmas. Here are some pics of before and after....

Car now has new F3ZZ OEM cobra struts, all new OEM Ford Tie Rods and fresh front end alignment. Car rides/tracks great. I took it for a nice long Easter Sunday cruise today as it was a beautiful day in MD today. I really appreciate the softer, more compliant ride the Cobra offers compared to the LX/GT. Seems to be a lot less rattles and harshness.
