Best blower set-up and safest lbs of boost

Post by Romo93 »

I'm really thinking about adding a blower to my Cobra and I want to do it all right the first time. I like the Vortech V-3 (self-contained oil) kit. I wouldn't want to use an FMU and no cutting for a biggger power-pipe. Isn't there an intank fuel pump that can now handle 400 or so HP without the need for an inline pump? I would also want to get it dyno tuned with a mild chip and a "fun tune chip"...

And some oppinions on how many horses the 93 can handle? I would like to be around 400/425 while keeping the stock heads and intake - although I will get the lower ported if i need to, achievable?

What's everyone think? Please chime in......

Stock heads and intake is only gonna get you in the 350 range with 6-8lbs and keeping it safe. Do you plan on changing injectors or not? An FMU is not needed if you are going to put a tune on it.

Vortech V-3 pullied for 10 psi, TFS top end, injectors, OEM bottom end, SCT chip, and a touch of meth for an added safety margin with pump gas netted my buddy nearly 500rwhp. Has in 255 in-tank with a Vortech T-rex for fuel delivery.

It's pretty much a cookie cutter recipe. 400rwhp is easily attainable.

My black car has a Kenne Bell 2.2 Flowzilla set for 10 psi, injectors, SCT chip, MAF, and complete OEM engine and makes 395 rwhp and almost 450 rwtq. 255 in-tank pump with a KB BAP for fuel delivery.

Maybe I shouldn't over look the Kenne Bell! That is a simple set-up with a ton of torque for staying stock. What MAF you running and what size injectors? How much fun is it to drive?

I would run atleast 10lbs with a tune and 42lb injectors. I've done it before just not with a Cobra, don't want to over do it and brake parts... just looking for opinions on the easiest and a reliable set-up. Buddha has me thinking KB... Time to do some more research. :D

My Cobra w/stock engine has a Vortech V-2 SQ at 10 psi, 42lb injectors, 80mmMAF, 255 in-tank pump & Vortech T-rex. On the dyno, the engine makes 389 rwhp and 397 rwtq. On the street, the car is wicked fast and is a blast to drive.

Nice simple setup! Might be the same route I go as it's cheaper than a KB with about the same horsepower. I'm going to research both blowers and think about it. I do like that the new V-3 is self contained oil now.

If, your not going to race the car and just want the extra power for the street. I would go with Buddha's setup, do the kenne bell. The low end power is so much more noticeable with great torque, IMO. I would recommend though either putting a met kit on to cool the air charge and/or put a set of long tubes on also to try expel the heat soaking of the blower away from the engine a fast as possible. The kenne bell does hang over top driver side header.

42lb injectors with a LMAF. I don't drive it very hard, but it is a blast to drive..........the torque is definitely there.

KB route is definitely not cheap. Here is my setup:

My 88 gt was bone stock with a powerstroke 7.3 turbo. 42 lb injectors and pro m maf. The car dynoed at 435 hp and 610 tq to the wheels at 24 lbs of boost. O yea also had meth injection to get to that amount of boost. I could have made the same power with lower boost if the heads cam and intake flowed better.

No doubt it's expensive! That has me leaning towards the V-3.... Not sure yet.

I did not. I'm very pleased with the power output and driveability of the car as is. The Vortech set-up was competitively priced and has been reliable as well. It also makes for a clean look under the hood. The V-3 w/self contained oil sounds even easier than my setup w/the oil feed line.
