Vibration in shifter handle

Post by needa93svt »

Hey guys,

I have a posting in the For Sale/Wanted section for a 93 cobra, which I hope to find and aquire soon. In the meantime, I have a question about a car I am considering that I wanted to bounce off of you all, and see what you think.

The car is several hours from me, so I am unable to look at it in person. The current owner said the transmission shifter vibrates some of the time when he shifts into 4th gear. I asked if he thought it was the transmission, and he said no, it is just the shifter handle and a simple fix by tightening "something" to correct the issue.

Has anyone heard or experienced this? Ultimately I would like to determine if this is something minor, or if it is an indication that the transmission is on its way out.

Thanks in advance. :D

maybee the little plastic bushing is broke or missing that the end of the shifter pivots in? is it a stock shifter or aftermarket?

Thanks for the reply BadBoy.

I spoke with the owner again, and he described that the shifter handle itself vibrated loose and that it simply needs to be tightened up.

I agree with you that it seems odd that the car only does it in 4th, but he also said that 4th is the gear he cruises around in, so the vibration is more noticeable.

you would most likely have vibration in 4th because in high gear and lower rpms the engine is under more of load, / strain.

big frank - Yes, I saw the posting. I am looking for a car in the Northeast so I can see/drive it before purchase, but thank you for bringing it to my attention.

On another note, can you guys make any recommendations about important things to note when looking at a car? For example, I have seen a number of people point out the lack of A/C units & associated peices on cars for sale.
