New 1993 Cobra Owner #1404 Red/Black (UPDATED PICS)

Hey guys. New 1993 Cobra Red/Black Owner w/33k miles. Im excited about this car and absolutely love it. So much fun to drive. I already want another. I have so many questions and have already been wearing out the search function. Im excited about being part of this group and learning some stuff over the years. I will post pics once snowpocolypse is done here in GA. I do have a few questions though.

First, I was wondering what original documentation came with the cobra so I can start to get documents together. It did not come with any. I also was wondering if anyone had a picture of a 1993 Owners manual so I can start to look for one on ebay.

Second, I was wondering how much of the cobras interior panels were the same as the gt and lx models.

Third, How can I get a spare tire, mine did not have one. My passenger side front wheel also was curbed and has scratches, I was wondering if there are stock replacements or if anyone knows a way to fix that.

Fourth, A few spots on the car have the clear coat starting to show peeling. I was wondering if polishing compound will get rid of that or if there is another solution.

Fifth, most important, i am getting air noise around the rear hatch when I drive. Im not sure whats causing it. The weatherstripping is all there so im confused.


I have soo many questions but I will leave it at 5 for now. Based on what I have been reading this group knows there stuff so Im sure questions will come up as I progress. Pics will follow.

Congrats on the purchase of a fun ass ride, where in GA are you? I live in Columbus maybe one day we can meet up for a cruise, I'll try to find the owner of the teal here in Columbus so we can convoy and make heads turn, yup

I live in Henry County Georgia. Its funny you say that cause I want to drive it but every time the odometer clicks I get saddened. I'm torn weather to drive it or keep it in the Garage. That would be fun though!

Congratulations, MCG! Welcome to the site.

First, I was wondering what original documentation came with the cobra so I can start to get documents together. It did not come with any.

A complete set would include window sticker, SVT certificate, SVT letter to owner and 1993 Mustang Owners Manual, warranty booklet, plastic warranty card, blank plastic key fobs, documents for sound system, tires, etc. and black folder for the manual/booklets/fobs.

A member on this site (93Cobra#2771) does real nice window sticker reproductions and with your VIN# and $40 or so you can get an SVT cert from Ford (in a newer design that is not exactly like the original certs). Good luck on getting a copy of the SVT letter - that's a real tough find. A 93 owners manual is a relatively easy find, although some of the other booklets and the key fobs and plastic warranty card are much more difficult to obtain.

The Cobra interior panels are identical to the GT and LX hatch interior panels.

These awesome cars are meant to be driven, if I ever find the teal are u up for a three colored cobra cruise? , that's if he agrees as well ofcourse

OP, I'm very jealous. Someday I hope to get my own 93 Cobra. THis is one possible way to get a certificate documenting that Ford certifies your VIN is a limited edition SVT 93 Cobra. It may not be the actual original paperwork, which might be lost forever but it is something.

You can get a spare easily on ebay

If the clear is peeling I dont think a compound will help you depends how bad it is

Did you look for the rear vin stickers on both the quarters up in the hatch? could have been hit

No I didnt buy it on ebay. I did a face to face transaction. I dont think it was hit. Carfax had a clean bill, but who knows. How would I check the vins on the hatch? I will post pics tommorow. Either way its mine and I love her.

How would I check the vins on the hatch?

Ford affixed little white tags to most of your cars body panels that have your cars VIN printed on them. The quarter/hatch panel VIN tags are typically located around the lower mounting bracket for the hatch lift supports (as seen in the far right and left areas of the pic below).



If your car still has the tags, and hasn't been rear-ended some time in the past...you might adjust the hatch bumpers that are on each rear corner of the hatch. This could help with your issue.
