Help! Am I screwed?

Coming home my car felt like it was running out of gas (gas gauge no good). I made it into the driveway. Got my gas can and went to fill it up. I stuck the nozzle in the tank and when I pulled it out the small rubber piece on the end of the nozzle was gone! It's in the damn tank now. How bad is this? Will it get sucked into the fuel pump? Or is there a barrier to keep that from happening? Freaking out about this! Any input would sure be appreciated! Thanks.

You should be fine. There is a filter sock at the bottom of the fuel pump that filters dirt particles, no way a piece of rubber can get through it.

X2. That rubber piece would have to be way smaller for it to be an issue.

Did gas help the situation of the car running, if not might be worth while to drop the tank and put a pump assembly in to get the gas guage working.

I wouldn't mind getting screwed (been married for eternity), but you are in the clear.
