Think my thermostat took a crap!!!

Been taking some short cruises this week and have noticed my temp gauge has been creeping up past half way.
Last night I let it idle (temp was going up past three qtrs) and watched for the thrmostat to click and kept checking the top radiator hose, it never seemed to cycle and the hose was getting very hot, usually you can feal the coolant going through. No leaking anywhere, oil looks fine and no bubbles or dis-coloration in the overflow tank. (thank God!) Think the thermostat is just stuck closed and getting no coolant circulation.
Going to pick up a 180 degree thermostat. Just changing the thermostat with my blower and pulley is going to be a BITCH! I'm pretty sure that will fix my issue. If it doesn't and its a waterpump issue I'm going to be in for a huge ass job just getting to the waterpump...
I will also pick up new coolant and flush the radiator while I'm at it..........
Any other things I should look at? I was going to replace thermostat before even looking into a pressure test.

Probably just the thermostat, If you plan on changing the water pump you might just have it rebuilt. Most of the part stores offer newer no named casting style water pumps instead of the original ford castings. Some of them offer rebuilt with ford castings but harder to find. It's not that bad of a job, just takes a little time to disassemble everything.

I remember how much of a bitch it was to replace my thermo, but I could only imagine with ur set up how much of a cluster it'll be to replace it, good luck bro

You still using the stock radiator? If so, I'd recommend an upgrade if you end up having to take things apart.

I like your thinking Zzzz!
I just drained my radiator and ALL the passages inside are freaking caked to hell! I'm not getting any flow in this thing..
I'm going to clean out the overflow tank and still replace the thermostat. Time to start researching after-market rads.
What you running Zzzz?

I've both fluidine (best IMO) and mishimoto and love them both. The mishimoto is less expensive but still very well constructed and has been keeping my red car cool for a while now.

I'm running a 3 core aluminum with twin electric fans, no clutch fan. Previous owner told me that he installed it, along with a 160 racing thermostat? All I know is that the car runs very cool... maybe getting up to 1/3 gauge when i'm getting on it for a period of 2-3 minutes or more. if I just drive it maybe it will hit 1/4 gauge. I like it, just thought another opinion/set up might help.

Good luck!

I'm liking the Fluidine from what I have researched. I like the fact I can still use the stock fan / shroud and rad. brackets... and hear good things about it.

Yeah, if you're not sweating the price pull the trigger on the fluidine. I think with your set up you'll be happy you did. Great product!

I had a Fluidyne on my LX and my buddy ran a Be Cool on his notch, great rads and no issues with either. Both are pretty pricey but personally I feel that it's best to replace with quality parts in the long run...I mean its a Cobra right??? lol

This usually what happens after installing a blower....cooling issues. Romo, make the investment into a 3 Row radiator, Edelbrock Water Pump, 160 thermo, and either get an electric fan setup.. (you should do an alternator upgrade with a electric fan install) and or keep the stock fan....you'll have no worries afterwards.
