Most "stock-like" exhaust???
I need to replace the entire exhaust on the 1993 Teal and I want to replace it with the most stock looking exhaust there is. Any suggestions?? Would love it if anyone has any pics as well.
Re: Most "stock-like" exhaust???
If stock is what you want and you're willing to spend some $$, look for someone selling an OEM H-pipe w/cats (they're available on a regular basis). Also, there are plenty of sources for the pipes that go over the rear axle and end in the polished stainless steel ends. However, finding OEM mufflers and the rear exhaust pipe sections near them may be more difficult.
IMO, I would use the opportunity to find the OEM H-pipe but replace the mufflers with Flowmasters. The sound alone is worth it. Good luck.

Re: Most "stock-like" exhaust???
My personal favorite is flowmaster mufflers with dynomax tailpipes. The easiest way to do this is to buy the Flowmaster Super 44's dumps and then the Dynomax Tailpipes. This system will be 2.5 inches not 2.25 like the factory. It will have the polished tips like the originals. The Flowmaster Super 44 dumps are nice because they have the flow tube welded in from the factory and are full stainless construction. The Dynomax tailpipes are made by Walker and they made the original exhaust for these cars when new. I think they fit very nice. As far as I know, nobody makes a factory style 2.25 catback. I think Walker/Dynomax still has some that are the correct size (2.25) but they don't have the correct finish on the tailpipes. It is a non polished finish.
I would also recommend you ditch the OEM H-pipe. Put it up in the attic and save it for the next guy. You will have more HP, less drone and the classic foxbody sound with the off road H pipe and Flowmasters. I feel like the Flowmaster signature sound gets a bad rap sometimes as people say every fox sounds the same. Lots of folks try other combinations of X-pipes, Prochambers, mufflers. I have heard all kinds of combinations through the years and the Flowmasters + O/R H pipe is still my favorite.
I did my most recent exhaust on my 1993 Cobra with cost as the #1 priority. I bought a Summit Brand off road H pipe which is the same as BBK without the logo for $50 less, a pair of off brand Flowmasters called Jones Mufflers. These are the original Flowmaster 40's without the logo for 1/2 the price. I reused the Dynomax muffler flowtubes and my Dynomax tailpipes. The flowtubes and the tailpipes have 60,000 miles on them but cleaned up to new condition with some elbow grease. The tailpipes were installed by the original owner of my car and were originally "GT" tailpipes that he modified to look as correct as possible. I reused the factory muffler hangers and brackets. The hangers were welded to the mufflers.

Re: Most "stock-like" exhaust???
Pic of my old 82GT with off road h and the Flowmaster American Thunder catback. The American Thunder is a 2.5" system with 409SS construction and features Super 44 mufflers. The mufflers have brackets for the hangers welded to the mufflers. Good system. Sometimes the tailpipes don't hang right in the back. Need some TLC to come out from under the rear bumper correctly. I also don't like how they are embossed with "Flowmaster".

now I miss the 82...shouldn't have went there...

Re: Most "stock-like" exhaust???
Although this is getting away from the "stock-like" exhaust, it's great advice. I used this combo on my '89 and have the same set-up on my Cobra. The sound is fantastic and the noticeable increase in hp will make your ride that much more enjoyable.noac wrote:I would also recommend you ditch the OEM H-pipe. Check out the vids in this thread for that Flowmaster signature sound (accompanied by a Vortech whine) -

Re: Most "stock-like" exhaust???
Can you post some info on your current exhaust? If you have the oem exhaust you could cut out the mufflers and weld some 2.25 mufflers of your choice in.

I don't know about an OR H-pipe reducing drone. OR H-pipe + Flowmaster = DroneMaster. Been there and done that setup, and it droned something horrible at highway speeds. Switched to an OR X-pipe and the drone was virtually gone.noac wrote: I would also recommend you ditch the OEM H-pipe. Put it up in the attic and save it for the next guy. Re: Most "stock-like" exhaust???
Thanks for the responses guys. The current headers & exhaust on the Teal Cobra is not stock and it's been patched in a few places. Just looking for suggestions and get an idea of a cost. Won't be doing anything to the '93 till my Coyote swap in my '97 Cobra is done.
DBrennan, I might be interested in the setup come March/April.
